Stitch
I want to buy a long lead and I have always preferred a cotton webbing leads but I wonder if a light weight nylon long lead would be best for long lead puppy training purposes. I am not sure how light weight a cotton type one would be in comparison - what do you all think is the best lead to work with and what would be the best length 5mtrs or 10mtrs??? poodlefan
What do you want it for? Nylon burns skin if pulled quickly. Edited December 8, 2010 by poodlefan
Stitch
I have done some experimenting this morning - I will be using 2 leads at one time. I have worked out I need one about 10 metres long and the other one can be a bit shorter and lighter.
corvus
I think Black Dog do a very light long line that is 10m long. It's good about not getting snagged on things, but that includes fingers. Cuts like a knife if it gets pulled through your fingers. I have another thicker nylon one that is 5m long. No idea who makes them. I use it in training loose leash walking. It doesn't hurt as much if it gets pulled through fingers
Steve K9Pro
K9: we have two types, both high quality and come in 5 and 10 m lengths. The premium range just went on sale or will be soon (I dont run that side) at 40% off... The premium cotton is rubber lined and wont slip through your hand easy and is still light too! Jadziah
You could also try one having a look at one of the Mendota long leads. Mendota specialise in Tracking and Retrieving trial equipment so would be used to dogs going through rough terrain etc and of course dogs that are excited to get somewhere. There is a supplier in WA called Pets Providore that stocks them www.petsprovidore.com.au See you Nikki, the Aussies + 1 Sheltie Jadziah Australian Shepherds www.jadziah.com Aussie Agility www.aussieagility.com.au
