28-32 days.

Ultrasounds are good and confirming pregnancy and not always getting the numbers right.

Some times puppies hide, other times the machine is not a good enough quality or the user is not as good as some others.

I agree with SwaY, don't take it as gospel what they see...sometimes they can count the same one twice also. Just take it as confirmation that there is "something" there!

What Sway and MM have said. It confirms pregnancy but is not accurate enough for numbers.

Good luck!!!

Thanks everyone. I know it isn't 100% accurate but it should give me an idea of numbers...

Don't count on it :o

I know of some told expect 6, they got 9.

Others expect 4, they got 7.

Ultrasound - confirms pregnancy but is not accurate enough for numbers.

Xrays are best taken at 8 weeks to determine numbers - with that said, they to can also be wrong!

I know what you mean Sway... I have ultrasounds in the past... Most have been around what my girl has had... About 3 years back i got an xray done.... Vet said between 7 -71/2 LOL she had 8... Back then i paid $85 for xray but now i use a different vet as moved towns and he said $180 so would like to know what are prices for ultrasounds and xrays you are paying?

Is $180 steep for a pregnancy xray??

Wow - that's a bit dearer than what we paid last year. Ours was around the same as your first - about $85. With our last litter we had our bitch x-rayed at about 8 weeks - the (inexperienced) vet counted 6 spines, so after we delivered 5 puppies we were starting to get worried when the 6th one hadn't come - fast forward to vet opening time at 9am and the real vet had a look, reassuring us that there should only have been 5. We had her ultrasounded last weekend at 4 weeks and there was no way we were going to get an accurate count from that particular scan as the quality was just too poor. We were happy to see a couple of "somethings" jiggling about in there though, and that's all we had expected to find out.

I paid around $160 a couple of weeks ago for x-ray, was very accurate for me and will be doing it again

With our last litter both the ultrasound and x-rays were incorrect. We had an ultrasound on our girl at day 31, the vet said around 5 puppies but couldn't get a good count because of gas and told us to come back in a few days. We went back and she could only see 2 puppies and the rest as black blobs. She went on to tell us that it looked like our bitch was reabsorbing the puppies.

So we went to another vet and got an xray done at day 52 to confirm pups were still there and the vet counted 5. We ended up having 7 puppies.

I believe that ultrasounds cannot be used accurately for counts, and it really depends on the skill of your vet. Unfortunately ours gave us a scare..and all for nothing.
