RubyStar
Are you not doing the obedience trial on sat 23rd? I sent my entry off today Not if it coincides with the retrieving weekend :p I like your priorities! Priorities are a bit screwed at the moment! I sent away my entries for the State Agility Trial for the weekend of the 16th/17th, only to realise the practice retrieving trial I wanted to enter (in pre-novice) is on the 16th, so no retrieving for me Very bummed they fell on the same day! Agility comes 3rd for me in my priorities list, but as I'd already sent the entries off and I'm actually looking forward to that weekend, I wasn't going to scratch from it. Just another reason I will never make it to trialling in retrieving, lack of opportunities to train as other things get in the way! There were 4 classes this past month and I only made it to the 1st one Edited April 5, 2011 by RubyStar
FHRP
It's hard to fit it all in isn't it! Especially if you have multiple dogs. Unfortunately unless you do make Retrieving a high priority it can be hard to get very far. Hence why Polo isn't in All Age yet!! Agility was my priority last year while chasing my Vizslas AgCh, but now I'm ditching Agility trials for field work :p Edited April 5, 2011 by FHRP
fetchindawgs
Rubystar, the trials are on Saturday 23rd, Sunday 24th and Monday 25th at Easter. All Age on Saturday and Sunday, and the three stakes being held on Monday. It is at the same site as last year. Most people will be travelling down on Good Friday I should imagine. To answer the question about having just one stake (eg; All Age) on a single day instead of how it is done over in the ES, with all three stakes on a day. The practise over here has always been to devote a whole day to one stake. We do have the Anzac Day trial having Novice, Restricted and All Age. They are not run simultaneously, as there just aren't enough workers to do so. People from other stakes are expected to work in stakes they are not competing in, so you will find AA handlers working in the field for Novice or Restricted, and Novice & restricted handlers working in AA. We also began only a couple of years ago to have a couple of double header weekends run by the ANRTC. These events usually have an All Age and Restricted on one day, and an All Age and Novice on the next day, again, run consecutively. Generally, the people judging and running dogs over here, do not like the ES method of running trials. It becomes a hassle when you have multiple dogs in different stake levels, running here and there, and, also in situations where you do have to go to another stake, you don't get to see anything (usually of either stake). It must be a nightmare for the judges as well !!! In regards to getting to trials, my priority is retrieving. I dabble in obedience and HTM, and used to do some tracking and agility a long time ago. I found that having too many disciplines became too much for my dog, so I sat down and thought what was the most important to me, and retrieving came out in front by a mile. So, if another discipline clashes with a retrieving date, then that's too bad, my first love is retrieving. My idea is to catch up on the others in the 7 months off season. Someone asked if we had flatcoats here, and the answer is Yes. We have two flatcoats competing in Novice, and another pup just starting this season. I think I prefer the chance to run my dog more often, but accept that as a result I rarely ever see an All Age stake. Often I will steward for my own stake, and nearly always for the other lower stake if the same judge is used for both. I don't think we'd finish before dark if at least some stakes weren't run simultaneously.
RubyStar
I started Ruby on a bird yesterday. Got one out of the freezer (gross ) and when it was partly defrosted (so still a bit firm) I put it into a sock, tied both ends up, and started working on holds with her while sitting in a chair. Went quite well!
FHRP
The ACT Gundog Society held the first RATG for the ACT today. One very keen DOLer came down from Sydney to compete in Novice. Their qualifying score made their third, for their NRA title, the first in Oz!! Well done to gspx3 and Shimmer The test attracted a ncie entry with 13 in Novice for 4 qualifiers and 4 in Open for 4 qualifiers. It was lovely to see some new faces, and a great variety of breeds - Cocker Spaniel, Brittany, Working Springer, GSP, Golden Retriever, Vizsla, Irish Red & White Setter, Labrador (one of each colour!), Nova Scotia Duck Toller & LH Weimaraner. There was lots of talent in the test, hopefully we will see some of them pregress onto Retrieving trials!! A few pics of Novice dogs from the day. RubyStar
Well done gspx3 and Shimmer!!! And first to get the NRA in Oz, what an honour (meanwhile, still waiting for WA to hold one I guess that's why they say WA stands for Wait Awhile ) Great pictures FHRP, we really need more photos in this thread of the dogs at work! Can I ask what breed that is in the photo right before the LH Weim?

Can I ask what breed that is in the photo right before the LH Weim? That's a Brittany. She's a combination of the American and French style of Brittany's which are quite different to each other in appearance. The colour is unacceptable in the show ring in the USA, but allowed here Edited April 9, 2011 by FHRP
FHRP
Great photos!!!Do you know who the Toller was and how it went? Thanks tollersowned. The Toller was "Max" FIONAVAR HAWKER HUNTER CDX AD JD and came second in Novice He has super enthusiasm and great potential. The owner has worked hard to stop a breaking problem and the dog would do well in Novice Retrieving trials with minimal more work IMO.

FHRP
Thanks, yes Rogan won Open and Polo was second. I like to support the club with entries and Rogan does love the format, more than retrieving trials A shame you couldn't make it rubyroo, Stinger would have had a great time, the Open test did provide a few challenges!!! Good use was made of the dam/swamp and treed areas. There is a recently created thread on AWRC with RATG dates that will hopefully be added to, might be useful for people on here interested in the events http://www.australianworkingretrievercentr...f=11&t=2379
