Vickie
I was just sitting here & Peppi went to toilet on our back pavers. I called her out onto the grass but she kept coming back onto the pavers. Didn't want to go on the wet grass at all. I got a toy out & started throwing it around the back yard to see just how much she objected to the wet grass. She was right in the thick of it, running through puddles & her normal pushy, animated self with the toy. Once play stopped, she headed straight back to the pavers & did her wee! I'm going to try her on a lead next, probably tomorrow morning as it will be the next wee I can predict. My other dogs are trained to toilet on command, so we need to do this with her as well. I suspect she will hold off on the grass tomorrow. She seems to be able to hold on forever. Any other ideas? Not only do I not want her toileting on pavers, there will be times she will need to be happy training & trialling when it's wet. The Spotted Devil
Just went through this with crazy Springer pup, Vickie She was toileting in all sorts of freezing, wet weather without a problem then we had a warm, dry spell. Once the rain came down again she decided it would be much easier to toilet on the paving under cover. Smart lass I say! Yep, I just put her on lead and took her out to toilet as per normal. Gave the command as per usual and waited and waited and waited. Ah, well - no toilet? No freedom. Quietly put her back in her crate with no fuss. Eventually she got the message and I gave her a massive jackpot reward for her troubles. I also rewarded other behaviours with pats and praise only and reserved her food for toileting only for a few days. She's fine now - sprints out, toilets and sprints back before I've had a chance to put my shoes on. Good luck!
Clyde
There is no way my Shih Tzu will get her fluffy, little paws wet. She pees inside when it rains so I have to watch her like a hawk.

I feel your pain. Lily the Toy Poodle considers peeing outside optional when it rains. I suppose I should be grateful she ain't a Great Dane. whiskedaway
I am so glad Akira is a waterbaby and thinks the wetter it is, the better it is.
wuffles
Mine don't pee inside but boy could they hold on forever Our little one is easy enough to get outside and she will go reluctantly in the rain but our big boy is another story. He hadn't been outside in about 16 hours last weekend so we thought enough is enough. Bribing didn't work. I put his collar and leash on and dragged him outside where he proceeded to sit at the door, in the rain, for about 15 minutes - no peeing. So I gave in and took him for a walk around the block where he happily marked every bush he saw
Vickie
Thanks TSD, I hadn't thought of bringing the crate into it, will try that too. Looks like Pep is not the only one. I don't think it'd bother me so much if she wasn't so willing to run through puddles to play!
The Spotted Devil
Oh, and my Dally isn't much better :D What works for him is having his coat on. Precious, much
corvus
Erik is exactly the same. He doesn't mind playing in the wet grass in the least, but he doesn't like to get his pawses wet when he's toileting! We did the leash thing as well. It was so much fun standing in the yard with an umbrella waiting him out. Took about 20 minutes, then he got treats when he went. It took about three days for him to catch on. We don't have any trouble with him weeing inside when it's wet anymore, but unfortunately he didn't generalise it to poos. Been trying to teach him a "number 2s" cue, but it's hard to catch him at it! The only time I know he's gonna go is first thing in the morning and OH always gets up first and lets him out. I'm not very good at getting into the habit of watching him when it's wet.
The Spotted Devil
Just poured with rain here - about 20 mm in a few hours - took pup out during a break in the weather and she bolted out, skidded to a halt just before the wet area and toileted on the deck under cover. I didn't pay any attention to her (I always make SUCH a fuss when she toilets properly) but grabbed a bowl of water and washed it away. Within a few minutes she went out on the dirt and did the tiniest wee you've ever seen.....decided she wanted those biscuits and cuddles after all! Aussienot
My female dog Tarot (pictured left) believes she is made of sugar and will melt if rain falls on her. She also refuses to pee in wet grass. She knows better than to go in the house, so I drag her out and hold an umbrella over her while she toilets in the flower box. The alternative is that she doesn't pee for about four days, so this is the best compromise we have come to.
Lablover
I'm going to try her on a lead next, probably tomorrow morning Any other ideas? Friday humour sorry, don't forget an umbrella.
