Loving my Oldies
I recall seeing bits and pieces on DOL about Australian Bulldogs, but without taking too much notice. Nothing in the Breeds 101 Forum so wondering. I had to go to the skin specialist this morning and wore my "Don't Breed or Buy While Shelter Pets Die" (don't flame me, breeders ) and when the doctor read it he said he wanted an Australian Bulldog. I said I would make enquiries, but I wasn't sure that the breeding was all above board in some places. I've googled and there are lots of sites, but I wanted to consult the wisdom of DOLers. poodlefan
I'd call it a "breed in development". They have their own breed registry but no ANKC recognition. Quite a few issues in this type. I'd be treading carefully
Linda K
hmmm, methinks this one might get a bit heated
felix
Doesn't have to be heated. Poodlefan's description as 'breed in development' is perfect.
Kirty
All of the Aussie's I've met have had the same issues and more as the British. I thought the whole point was to create a healthier version of the British.

Quite a few issues in this type. I'd be treading carefully I'd call it a knock off and not a pinch on the real thing. They set out to improve on the health etc of the British Bulldog and failed. Tell the DR to look for a well bred British from an ANKC registered breeder
Bluefairy
I have owned 2 Aussie Bulldogs, they are the perfect family dog, though a bit like a lumbering giant The original web site for this breed is: http://www.australianbulldogsociety.com/ Don't go to any other web sites, as some of the past members have started their own breeding plans and introducing more breeds into the breed than was originally started with. The original breeder, Pip Nobes, started this and they were up to their 6th generation since I was there about 18 months ago. They have to have so many generations of a particular heritage before the ANKC can recognise them. So its still an ongoing breed. BF
Remarkabull
From what I've seen they still don't have a consistant 'look' about them. Some are way taller than others, some have faces like a boxer, some like a bull dog. My OH desparately wants a BB and I started researching Aussie Bull Dogs because I had heard that they have less health issues etc but I wasn't overly impressed with them. I'd still be going for a well bred BB over an Aussie BD any day.
Bartok
Does anyone know if there is Aussie bulldog rescue at all?
juice
I have a freind who owns a Bb, he is much taller than i expected, and actually very fit, although i can still hear him comming from 2 houses up However, there is a guy round the corner from me who has 4, what i thought were Bb's, but got talking to him and they are aussie's.He breeds them he says. They are shorter than the bb i know, and not so well put togther, so its very confusing!
Gayle.
Does anyone know if there is Aussie bulldog rescue at all? If there's not, there should be. They show up in pounds a lot.
*Bones*
Breed in development - for 30 years - been sidetracked. Go to the organisation which has Pip Nobes on the committee. The original and the best registry. The other registries broke away from the original one, because they wanted to introduce x bred dogs into the 8 + generations ... mastiffs, BB, boxers, etc. The original dogs need nothing more. They were correct 20 years ago.

Esky the husky
Well I've learned something new. I honestly just though they were a cross between a British and an American Bulldog I wonder if it will be a recognised breed one day?

Poodlefan, that is about what I told the doctor, that I didn't think they were a recognised breed, they had quite a few health issues, lots of shonkies, etc etc. I will point him in the direction of Pip Nobes and leave the rest to him.
