dippa
Hi all, I've been following this forum for a while and enjoying all the pics/threads and now have finally signed up and have a question regarding our 10 month old australian red border. Summer is heating up over here and we have noticed on all border collies, Hugo, nose that small 1mm diameter spots of pink a re showing where there was black. there are 5 small pink spots which looks like a loss of pigment in that area. Has anyone seen this before? I've never had this before with my previous black and white border and am curious whether its something to do with the lighter colour and summer or if there is something more serious afoot! cheers Gerard
whiskedaway
I'm not sure if it's something similar, but some dogs get what's called a "snow nose" in the winter months where they get a loss of pigment in their nose. Akira had it during the winter, but her nose is now black again. However, I've only ever heard of that happening in winter.

ShesaLikeableBiBear
Welcome to DOL There could be varying reasons. You may not know that there is an excellent search feature on DOL which you can use to find previous topics on a variety of subjects. It is on the top right hand corner of the page under the advertisement for the dog National Heart Survey (which is in red). Click on search, click on advanced options, type in your subject, and in this case scroll down and click on health and grooming. One topic you could type in is Discoid Lupus which is also known as Collie nose. PS If searching for subjects on your breed, it will be Border Collie, not Australian red border or black and white border.
