SkySoaringMagpie
when someone really expected to win and comes out of the ring snapping that the judge has no idea on type or movement - then picks the crap out of the dog that won........nasty.... On a related note, exhibitors in your group or breed with a bad case of verbal diarrhea.
Sayly
Someone coming up to you and bitching or being rude about one of your friends. Another for people letting their males piss on others belongings. Know it alls who tell you those more experienced how to breed and what to breed! Happened recently to a friend and OMG if it was me in her position I would tell them to stuff it. People who show sick dogs. Thankfully the good people outweigh the crappy ones! huganewf
Judges who are watching whats going on in the ring alongside while you are gaiting your dog! Have had this happen a couple of times when showing an immature dog. They never get another entry from me when they judge here again, even if I'm showing a different dog. It's just plain rude. But you pay you're money, you take you're chances.
espinay2
Show committees which assume that everyone knows were "Showgrounds, Such and Such a Town" is and dont even provide a street address (let alone a mud map) And then when you get to the town and follow the dog trailer who happens to be in front of you (who is following the one in front of it) you realise that NO ONE actually knows where they are going and you are convoying your way all over town

Only they are actually on their way away from the showground because all the horse events have been cancelled as the grounds are just too wet. And yet even in those conditions I'm trying to find the show Edited November 24, 2010 by Diva

morsha_68
Judges that make there class in group choice before all dogs get in the ring. Or as it happened on the weekend the runner up bob not even in the ring as the judge made the runner up in group choice. or the steward bugging you to get in the ring as the Danes are on there way out (little meets big). Liath
Having a male dog pee on my one spare doggy blanket and then other gets wet cause it was raining. Same dog then pee'd on a towel. People who boast how long they have been breeding, how many dogs they have bred and how many dogs they have shown etc etc, and then proceed to put down most the exhibitors around. People who attach themselves just because you have said hello and smiled and learn later on this is why most people avoid them. Finidng ants nesting under the mattress in our tent because its the driest spot in the showgrounds.
jr_inoz
- when my dog races to the ring, goes around the ring like a particularly sleepy sloth, then struts out of the ring like a BIS winner . Happens to me every week Evil puppies This is exactly what I get with Portia 90% of the time..... slugs around the ring with her tail down, and as soon as we are out of the ring, up goes the tail. same here - thinks the ring is the best place to run around with the nose on the ground like a shovel - all that nice food all around that must be there for them to eat.... having a lovely, still, non-windy morning, until it is time for your double coated breed to go in. Remarkabull
I must admit that this thread has made me think twice about wanting to show in the future as I think I would probably piss alot of people off! I would try and hang around people that were nice to me initially so therefore I would be considered annoying. I would probably make some excellent stuff ups and get confused and hold people up, especially while being a noob. I have no doubt that my male dog would probably pee on someones ropes or other belongings (not that I'd want him to and I would take great pains to avoid it but they are males and that is what they do). I'm sure I'd commit a multitude of sins and all before I've even gotten into the ring!
Diva
I would probably make some excellent stuff ups and get confused and hold people up, especially while being a noob. Nah, it's not new people doing that which annoys people, it's when those who know better and have been showing for years play silly games that it peeves. I have no doubt that my male dog would probably pee on someones ropes or other belongings (not that I'd want him to and I would take great pains to avoid it but they are males and that is what they do). Well that would annoy, it isn't 'just what males do', they can be taught what they are allowed to mark and what they are not. And if they do get someone elses's belongings because a handler isn't paying attention, for goodness sake apologise and wash it off. This is a 'peeves' thread after all, at least you'll know what to avoid

I'm sure I'd commit a multitude of sins and all before I've even gotten into the ring! New people stuffing up is completely different to those who have been around forever holding everyone else up due to their own self importance! I would be more than happy for new people to set up in my gazebo if I have asked them and I have done so on a couple of occasions and a new DOLer who is hopefully getting into showing next year already knows she is welcome to camp with us! I wouldn't really like anyone assuming they could camp in with us though and taking us for granted. Re the peeing thing, it's just about keeping an eye on your dog, it's not hard to keep them from pissing on everything. I've only been showing for a few years now but have found the majority of people fantastic and willing to help out, especially once you show you aren't going to ditch the hobby after a couple of shows (which does happen a bit). I have had so many wonderful people help me out, in my own breed and in others and have made more friends through dog showing than almost any other hobby or aspect of my life. We stuffed up heaps, it's about learning and if you are open to learn and take on board everything then people are generally pretty good and pretty patient. Nah - dont' worry - 1. your shows are over b4 you would have time to annoy anyone and 2. everyone up there is soooooooooo relaxed that they wouldn't even notice A friend told me once that they followed a dog trailer in a town they didn't know to find the show eventually to get to the destination to find out that those people were going to pick up a dog for someone and they were the 2nd group on so in no rush - friends then had to find the show by 'local' directions and then park and run into the ring with dogs. I've always been somewhat cautious following others since then .

As a handler you are in charge of what your dog does & allowing it to pee up peoples stuff is bad form .Accidents do happen & like already said ,say sorry & give that person a chance to water the area down. I have had people allow there dogs to pee in my dogs crates & on my dogs, grooming box, chair, clothes attached to my chair, esky, ezy up walls & the list goes on Not one word of sorry If your dog is a piddler then pay attention All the things mentioned would apply to any type of sport or interest. Its about asking for help, ensuring you are prepared & pay attention. I didn't mean he would be peeing on everything, he is house trained. What I meant was that given all the smells and the fact that males do tend to like marking things then it would probably happen occasionally. I would definately apologise and clean it up as best I could. Anyway, I will proabably start showing with a bitch. I would also not just assume that I could set up in someone elses gazebo (how rude, do people actually do that?), but if someone was initially friendly then I would probably feel more comfortable approaching them with questions and such instead of someone that wouldn't even say hello! I'm glad to hear that I would be given some leeway as a noob. It
SkySoaringMagpie
New people stuffing up is completely different to those who have been around forever holding everyone else up due to their own self importance! Agree with Lyndsay, and it is obvious to an observer which is which. That's why I said upthread that I don't mind unless I know it's attention seeking. Sometimes it's not just new people who take time but infirm people hanging on to their hobby too. I don't mind waiting for them, I do mind waiting for the Queen of Sheba to get themselves into the ring with the right dog.
poodlefan
I must admit that this thread has made me think twice about wanting to show in the future as I think I would probably piss alot of people off! Show an ounce of courtesy for your fellow exhibitors and you'll do just fine. If your a newb locally, you'd probably be shown a shady spot to put your dog, have help grooming him, given a few deep breathing lessons, have your number put on, be escorted to the ring and pushed in. I recall a newb missing his call on Day 1 of a two day show. No one knew to look out for him . I think about half a dozen folk made sure he was ringside for the next day. The issues I raised were those committed by folk who've been around plenty long enough to know better. Nah, you're in Darwin now I've only been showing for 2 years (so I'm still new). My dogs and I have done an assortment of 'wrong' stuff. -I've stopped in the wrong place.................then said to the judge 'Oh, wrong spot. Do you want me to come over there?' ;) -My bitch decided she was in love with a judge so she face-planted into his chest and swooned. There's heaps more, but one stands out. My boy peed on another exhibitor We were having a chat and I wasn't watching him. I was mortified and did help clean up. She's still talking to me (and possibly reading this )

Whats annoying is when it is the same people, week in week out who should know better (I think there should be a rule that each dog has it's own lead grr. How do these people handle challenge lineups???), who make everyone stand around waiting for them to get their act together. My bitch occasionally cocks her leg! Now THAT is mortifying. If it happens on someones property I apologize and clean it up. Most people just laugh at her though!
