What Has He Done To His Back Or Legs?

Great news, hopefully it was something minor, although you may have to watch it after the affects of the iv wear off. Were you told to keep excitement down a little

yes no exercise, bland food...this morning he is really good, he slept on the bed and yelped once when Kevin rolled over, so there is some pain there.....but where? he got up and walking running like nothing had happened.

He is sleepy because of the meds and still looks a little awkward at times when he walks, but he is waggy and eating, so things are looking good. Would be good to know exactly what happened when he jumped but we may never know.

Now fingers crossed that all is well when he comes off pain relief in a few days

Given the circumstances, he could have put his back out. I would be taking him to a veterinary chiropractor.

Hope he's better soon, poor boy.

Not sure if it is the case with your boy, but one of my mother's dogs sent over to me many years ago for stud duties had those exact symptoms and just the same was normal when taken to vet, but the same afternoon repeated and was whisked back to the vet so we managed a diagnosis that time - it was bladder stones and a huge one had lodged in his urethra causing enormous pain and urinary blockage - he had to be cathetered. Vet said he probably passed the first stone and was then pain free but the next big one repeated the problem.

I was astounded at the time - I had been thinking back injury too.

I hope it's not the same for your boy, but mention it to your vet as he can easily take a urine sample.

thanks for that RuralPug.. He is really bad again tonight, I rang the vet to see if I could give him extra pain relief...taking him in the morning , that really does seem like it could be........

My Darcy did something similar some years ago.

Turned out to be a misaligned facet joint in his spine and he recovered well with rest and some drugs. He gets regular chiro anyway.

Hope its nothing serious. One other possibility is IVDD but I don't think its much of an issue in Vizslas thank heaven.

Good Luck Bokezu, I really hope it is just a muscle / back problem from the quick jump / startle he reacted to.n (which is what I would be thinking it is due to the sudden onset).

One our our dogs did the same sort of thing, he was really in a lot of pain. Hunched over and basically refused to do anything. Had him up to the Vets as it went on for over 24 hours of crate rest, gave him a GA looking for a spinal problem, x rays and scans everywhere, could not find anything wrong with him. When he woke up he was fine, it appeared to be a sciatica (sp?) type problem and the GA relaxed him enough to allow his back to go back by itself when he was out to it. Next time it happens I will know what it is, and will give Anti Inflams and crate rest for 48 hours. Touch wood it hasn't happened again.

Fingers crossed for you. :)

Csan is back to normal today, hard trying to keep him quiet, tried doing zoomies in the house!

But he is on pain relief and anti inflams so feeling no pain atm. tommorrow he finishes pain tabs and just has anti inflams for the following 4 days, then we'll see how he is without anything...fingers crossed
