Bokezu
I am really concerned and I don't really know what he has done to himself! about an hour ago Csan my 17 month old HV was startled as my OH walked in and the door slammed shut because of the wind...he sort of jumped back and just stayed in the one position and couldn't move, his back was arched and his back legs looked really bowed, he didn't move for a couple of mins so I eventually coaxed him outside because I wanted him to move, he was walking really bandy legged and still with a slight arch in his back. He stood in the one spot outside and looked really uncomfortable so I put the lead on him and bought him back in, he balked at the 4 stairs but did come up and I put him in the crate for a while hoping it was just some sort of spasm that would correct itself. Got him out just now and he is still the same really uncomfortable and in pain, had a quick feel around and he is being very stoic and not letting me know where it hurts, but I was being really gentle because I really didn't want to hurt him anyway. He is normally so vibrant and happy but he is laying in the crate looking very sad. Could it be a ruptured disc? Could he have twisted something inside? I really don't know, we have no vets open after hours but can call an emergency number, would rather take him in the morning to my own vet. I googled ruptured disc and they say you can give aspirin which I haven't got but could go out and get some, does anyone know the dosage for a dog? Any ideas what it could be? I'm thinking ruptured disc.....
persephone
if there is no vet available- maybe ph> the emergency number anyhow ....keep him warm and crated tonight- no steps ,being picked up or on furniture..and vet first thing in the morning ! If he's not a chewer, perhaps give him a warm wheat bag or HW bottle, well wrapped Poor little man
smooch
It may possibly be a FCE. (Spinal Stroke). I would keep him created and as quiet as possible. http://www.ehow.com/about_6404495_spinal-stroke-canines.html

I really hope it isn't, as this boy is an import and only 17 months old, just starting a promising show career......
Everythings Shiny
I'm smooch's daughter. Definitely sounds like FCE. Depending on severity he may make a full recovery, or not. Definitely get to a vet asap. Good luck!

Bokezu
How did your puppy go last night?? did you end up going to vets or is that a job for this morning?? We have no 24 hr vet here but I did not ring the emergency number I took him outside on lead and he still walked funny and sat straight down on the cold grass shaking. I settled him in the crate but he looked in pain poor boy.......so pain means more likely ruptured disc than stroke, but we'll leave that up to the vet, who will prob just give pain relief and anti inflammatory This morning I took him out again on lead, walking just a little better but still obviously in a lot of pain, again he sat straight down shaking and wouldn't-couldn't toilet poor boy have to now wait for vet to open and ring them as they don't accept anyone just turning up without an appointment.......hoping my beautiful boy is going to be ok.. Bokezu
well I'm home with no answers yet, but he is a little better, he jumped into the car and out of the car before I could stop him. The vet examined him all over and there was no reaction of pain at all from his spine or hind legs. His temp is up which means some part of him is inflamed, he has been given pain relief and needs to stay in to be observed . He hasn't pee-ed or had a drink since 6 pm last night. He will have bloods taken Monday if there is no improvment. If he drinks and pees and temp goes down he can come home tonight, if not he will stay in on an iv drip overnight The vet was non specific about what it may be, she did mention spondylitis and the other one I can't remember.. Vet is going to ring me later
Kirislin
What a worry for you, to have something happen from seemingly nothing like that.
Starkehre
Hope you get some more news on your little man soon Boke. Must have been such a shock For what it is worth it does not sound like an FCE to me. One of my GHs had and FCE several years ago. I do hope it is nothing serious. Take care and best of luck with him. Will be thinking of you.
Bokezu
I've picked him up as his temp went down and he voided...he is walking now and eating and wagging the tail He is on pain relief for 5 days...vet has no idea and hoping he will be fine. If the symptoms return when he finishes his pain relief I will be asking for full investigations..... fingers crossed
