Tentapride
Hi all Im getting ready to start back at obedience with one of my tenties and I am looking for a club/group in the newcastle/lower hunter area. I have been a member of NABDTC for many years previously but am not interested in returning there as all they care about is collecting the $3 - mass classes and do nothing to support or encourage people who want to work up to trialling - and their methods aren't crash hot either. What I am looking for is a club/group that uses positive reinforcement, possibly clicker training, and support people who wish to train at above the pet level. I've trained and trialled before. My trialling was to open level and I was training UD exercises but that was at least 5 years ago now. Any suggestions/advice would be appreciated. Leanne Hi Leanne, We attend Maitland Dog Obedience Club which trains at Largs Oval on Sunday mornings. They use positive reinforcement (but not clicker training), no food, and are definitely interested in supporting members who wish to trial - that is their main focus. They are very big on recognising members' achievements in the dog world whether they be in obedience trials, showing, gundog trials, agility - whatever! They are a very supportive bunch! :D We've been attending for 2 years now and love it! They also have Wednesday night sessions available for people who are actively trialling, but that is by invitation only so that the groups remain small and very focussed. Tentapride
Thanks for that. Would you have any idea when they train and when they accept new members? I know its the wrong time of year for a new membersip but if I know when they start back up next year I can pop along and check it out. Although Im not too sure Im keen on the no food idea. I like to train with food rewards and the girl I want to train is not really toy motivated. Leanne

I have only just started doing it with my hounds (they aren't the easiest to train in obedience) but they have taken well to clicker....but I MUST have food rewards otherwise they are not motivated. I would be interested in finding out what you dig up....I am in the Maitland area Cheers
