quickbrownfox
Hello current (and past) puppy owners, Stanley lost his first baby tooth last week. About 5 have fallen out now. What can I do to make this phase a bit more comfortable for him? When a tooth fell out today, I gave him ice blocks to chew on (which he enjoyed), but I wonder if I can do anything more. Thanks
persephone
Don't fuss Just give frozen bones..other bones , and lots of other things to chew ;) I have had pups/dogs for a long time, and most times, if I didn't check , I would not have known they were teething . Thanks for the reassurance, persephone ;) Stanley loves bones. My freezer is full of them. I give him one everyday after breakfast. Chicken frames, lamb, beef tail, brisket, marrow... generally anything I can find, he's not fussy. Also, he has lots of soft toys he can chew on too

Max#1
Can you tell he's suffering? Max really suffered when he lost his teeth. He'd chew on things (like the corner of the couch... yeah great I know - it was almost like he was stretching his mouth for relief?) and kind of wail... Or - my normally happy little puppy just became kind of grumpy, for lack of a better way to explain it. In any case, if he's not suffering, I wouldn't worry about it! I've had other puppies where we didn't even notice they were teething! Just found an occasional tooth and that was it! For relief - just anything chewable! Cold is better! I think as well as making their gums feel better, chewing might distract from the pain???

I think as well as making their gums feel better, chewing might distract from the pain??? Poor Max Compared to Max, Stanley isn't suffering that much. There is not much blood when he loses a tooth. The only destructive thing he has done so far is rip up his woolly blanket, but otherwise he is fine. He enjoys chomping on ice blocks to relieve his teething (he has been through 3 trays today.) Other than that, he is still his happy self. I have toys that can be frozen but they defrost too quick. Maybe I should make a gigantic ice block in an ice cream container with kibble and apples inside. Thanks Max#

Nahla + Teddy's Mum
I didnt even notice mine teething until I stepped on a tooth one night inside! They didnt get mouthy or sooky but I did give them frozen carrots ( watch out for orange poo! ) and ice-cubes to munch on! Make sure you keep an eye on his canine teeth to make sure he looses them. Nahla didnt loose her's and has to have them taken out when she gets de-sexed this Friday. Ted's came out naturally!
quickbrownfox
Thank you all for the advice Stanley has now lost all of his baby teeth and his gums are not so sensitive now. (Gosh they grow up so quick! ) Edit: Thanks Erinys! One could mistake him for a teddy bear sometimes lol Edited November 18, 2010 by quickbrownfox
