my_sibe_owns_me
So vera has just gotten her puppies back. They are 5 weeks now and they have been apart since 2 weeks due to vera trying to die. She had been around them a little bit still and she would play with them ect. But now she will eat whatever she can get a hold of and throw her food up when shes around the puppies. I fed her an hr or more before letting her play with the puppies and she still threw up food. Is this normal? The puppies are not starving. They always have hard kibble to snack on and they get some softend food every 4-6hrs.
SilverHaze
Its her way of trying to feed/provide for her puppies - especially if you managed to dry up her milk.
angelsun
Very normal and happens regardless of whether a bitch has milk or not.
Cockerlover
Yep normal behaviour .In the wilds thats what they did to feed thier young .
persephone
This is not 'throwing up', it is regurgitation...and it is how many canines feed their young. Imagine a wolf with cubs .... the cubs are way too young to go hunting , so how do they get meat? Adults hunt, and gorge, and carry it back to the pups in their stomachs .... digestion is begun, the food is warm, and is a perfect start for the babies :D A lot of birds also regurgitate food- penguins for one , and parrots.... SilverHaze
And often we have the extended family regurgitating for the babies as well - its not just mum who wants to help the pups out :D
LizT
Poor darling probably thinks they haven't had a decent feed since she was separated from them! Nothing like mums cooking you know.
