Brumby Govt Commits To More Power To Rspca

These new laws being applied to pet breeders who don’t intend to make money from their operation so all pet breeders are covered

Well that says it all.

Even if you are devoted to your breed and decide to try to keep it going (even under all this pressure for dogs to be removed from society) and decide to only bred a litter once every 4 years. Keep one and give the rest of the pups to trusted breed enthusiast or friends. You still will be treated like a criminally inclined blight on society at extreme risk of being an unethical animal abusing dog breeder. Nice.

What a disgrace this country has become, the silent paralyzed majority retreats and stands by to let a small number of far left radicals run their lives.

Are all persons who do any sort of dog rescue mandated under law in Victoria to desex all dogs placed? Can some one show me where I can read this law?

If pet shops can not sell (they are not rescuers) intact dogs, then they will also have to mandate all dogs sold by breeders will have to be desexed too, unless sold to another criminally inclined blight on society at extreme risk of being an unethical animal abusing dog breeder. Bet you will need to file a special form with the shire and the RSPCA for the placement/transfer of pup or dog that is not desexed.

Wonder how much a puppy farm pup will cost after most of the ANKC breeders have stopped breeding?

For the Greater Good!

Watermelons for a new improved Australia!

Are these proposed new laws a sure thing? If the labour party doesn't get voted in at the next elections....is that to say that these proposed new laws are not going to be passed? The idea of the RSPCA having more power and being able to enter a property and seize all animals with claims that they are being neglected is indeed a frightening thought.

RSPCA were very clear about the fact that one of their goals is to have every state giving them this power.

They already have this in NSW and from what I can see with the push in Victoria and the fact that both sides of government in Victoria have promised tougher new laws I personally cant see any way you are going to dodge it.

Some of what has been on the table made me think it was never going to happen - it seemed so far over the top I couldnt imagine it was possible in this country but when you see that already in some places in the country unions have the ability to prosecute and place the onus of proving their innocence on the accused rather than as we all assume the justice system works with the onus of proving guilt on the prosecution - especially when we all know the history of trade unions and the stories of standover and corruption it has left me far from confident. The idea of seizing animals and charging someone a huge bond or the animals being sold off or bumped off sounds way out there and very much against all I thought was the norm in a democracy but after the attendance at the round table and from what Im hearing since it doesnt look very good.

Im so over hearing "it wont affect those who are already doing the right thing" and feeling powerless partly because the CCs are worried about being seen to be the bad guys and playing politics.

The whole dog industry has been held to ransom in this country for way too long by red neck animal rights propoganda which has brain washed people who love dogs into believing their crap and its time we started saying so.

Would anyone be willing to draft a letter that we can send to Opposition candidates expressing our concern and asking what, exactly, the Coalition policy is?

The RSPCA (and especially Hugely Wirthless) have a good publicity machine going, and everyone here knows they hate registered breeders so we need some way to combat their propaganda.

Poodlemum when Steve posted this I sent a letter to our local mps saying I didn't think they should be giving the RSPCA more power without putting any sort of ombudsman or anything else in place, and pointing out that this legislation would effectively end breeding of dogs outside of puppy farms and that that was the complete opposite of what people wanted. Doubt it will help any and I'm not much good at writing letters.

I think this is a done deal on both sides and Hugh of course is very pleased with himself.

The whole thing is an obscene waste of money which would be better spent on education.

I really think the game is over. Dog breeders have lost. But it will take 10 years for ANKC to have it's last gasp (might even hang on a bit longer as sort of a rare breed group or something long those lines) and for it to really become apparent that there is just no where to buy a dog. They won't stop with the purebred breeders, but as predicted we are the easiest to go after first. They will also shut down back yard breeders as people get more scared of heavy fines or even jail time. Last to go will be the big commercial breeders. I give them another 5-10 years after the small breeders are gone.

Steve can you put up a survey (I have tried and can not figure out how to do it) in the breeders section.

See how many people say they are going to stop breeding as these new laws, restriction, shire abnd planning department requirments and threats of fines and jail time come into effect?

Maybe also ask if they would be willing to stand up and be counted, attend protest or?? in public view to try to stop these laws and how they affect ANKC breeders.

I am certain, these laws will pass, if not this time, then in the not too distant future, it's all about revenue for the govt.

I have no idea on how to work with this without blowing $1000's of $'s, on top of what I have spent trying to produce a beautiful healthy bulldog to show... therefore, I'm bowing out.

If you give me the exact questions Ill put up a survey monkey one for you which does all of the special graphs etc

However, when we did that last one 78% said that the thing that would stop them were more laws and more regulations.

i have too-i dont own my own place,so i cant comply with the planning laws,DA etc.And i wont be told how to raise/socialise my pups or where to whelp them etc,so no more for me-i just dont have the money laying around to burn in order to breed the odd litter every few years.
