Olivebaby
I hate throwing away the food. I think that's what almost bothers me most. Oh well, like everyone has said... She isn't going to starve. Can't believe that delivery guy thought he could actually get away with it. Some people are just so stupid. I ordered 2 bags yesterday and I'm either getting it today or Monday. Can't wait. Maybe she will eat all her food when it's just BH.
stonecutter
According to the BH feeding guides, Ziva is meant to get about 1C a day for her weight - but we do 1/2C and 1 small piece of chicken neck. We started on 1C and she turned into a little fatty! Oh - instead of throwing the food she doesn't eat away - can you put it in the fridge/back in the container for another day? Olivebaby
Well I mix it with flaxseed oil and either a small amount of sardines or barf. So probably not hahaha. How much does your dog weigh? I'm confused because apparenty I am suppossed to be feeding my girl twice the amount you would give an adult dog when i swap to BH. That is about 3 cups seems too much to me. I haven't swapped her completely over yet. She is still mostly on RC and barely eating 1 1/2 cups a day over two meals. She looks good though so I probably shouldn't worry. Gayle.
You shouldn't need to mix it with oil, it already contains emu oil. Try giving the dog less, just give it dry or use it for training treats from your hand......ie, give the dog a training session at meal time and reward with BH pieces from your hand until you've used up a meal sized portion. Sayreovi
She sure has got me trained :-) but I don't think I'm feeding too much. She is very trim. She has a cup of kibble and half a small can of sardines in the morning, a chicken wing for lunch and another cup of kibble and half a barf patty for dinner. But I might try doing as you suggested with her dinner. I don't mind her grazing on dry biscuits but I don't like leaving the meat out. Thanks for your suggestion. That seems like alot of food How much does she weigh? My Tollers who are incredibly active and fit don't get half as much as what your girl does and only weigh about 5-10kg less than what your girl should (25-30kg).....not the same breed but trying to put it in perspective Though I don't feed anywhere close to the recommended amount and bulk it out with bones. I personally would cut out the lunch part altogether (healthy adult dogs don't need three meals a day ) or just feed her the bones/sardines in the morning instead of the BH and then fast her for a meal and see if that helps. stonecutter
Olivebaby - Ziva is 4kg at 6 months
Olivebaby
Ah ok hahaha. Big difference in size then. Olive is probably 15kg now at 5 months. It could be a little more, I have not weighed her for a few weeks. Now I definitely think she should be eating more. your 4kg pup can happily eat a cup of kibble and mine is struggling to eat 1.5cups!!! Well at least I know she won't ever be one of these fat labs. :-)

Olivebaby
Tollersowned- I don't feed my girl lunch. She gets kibble morning and night and about 2 sardines in the morning. And a few tablespoons of barf at night. Gayle- I use the flaxseed oil because She is still on 80% RC and about 20% BH. I get my bag on Monday. This is a special oil with heaps of good things for dogs. It's the melrose one. Have you heard of it? Even if I am feeding to much, which I don't think I am. It still remains that she does not eat it. I put her breakfast out this morning. No sardines. She saw me. Took one bite and walked away. She hasn't gone back since. Anyway it's fine. She is not underweight, she looks slim but definitely not ribby and she still has lots of squishy puppy skin around her neck, which I love :-D
stonecutter
Could it be teething? Ziva goes off her food each time a tooth is about to fall out.
Olivebaby
Hmmmm maybe? She did lose a tooth the other day. But in saying that, she has NEVER eaten a full meal in one go. Even when we first got her and feeding exactly the same as the breeder suggested she still only ate about half. Anyway I'm getting my BH Monday and will just try giving her less as tollersowned suggested. Maybe only 1 cup a day and see how she goes with that. :-)
Guest english.ivy
Olivebaby .. Maybe she isn't keen on eating it because of the RC? As I read you're still switching her over until you receive your bag [hopefully!] on Monday?
Olivebaby
Yes that's what it might be. Gosh there are so many variables! Anyway I'm not very concerned more frustrated that she won't eat her food, and it's not exactly cheap!
Gayle.
I used to use flaxseed oil when I made my own raw food, but top quality commercial kibbles contain oils and there's no need to add extra. Dusty is a 3 1/2 yo Australian Shepherd, she weighs around 23 kg and she gets 2/3 cup of BH per day and a raw chicken drum. Isaak is a 14 month old Aussie who weighs around 22 kg and he gets 2 cups of BH and a raw chicken drum. I think age is more relative than size.......also energy levels. Dusty is quite content to snooze the day away, any extra food and she looks like a wombat. Whereas Isaak is very ribby, but he is whether I increase his food or not, and he never stops moving. Olivebaby, if you want to switch to BH, mix 50/50 with RC, feed that for a few days then drop to 75/25 then move her straight to BH. It shouldn't take longer than a week. But the dog should be eating what you want her to eat, not what she dictates.

ETA, maybe it's time to switch her to one meal a day. Some dogs don't eat two meals. But to be honest, if one of my dogs regularly wasn't eating all of their meal in one go, they'd be getting a lot less next time. And if the dog is healthy and only eating one mouthful of it's morning meal, it wouldn't get another morning meal. I read the same as you Gayle... Olivebaby put the meal down and take it away after 10 minutes, offer half the amount eaten at the next meal time and so on, it won't take long for her to understand the concept of eating at a specific meal time (ie. when you give it to her - not when she wants to pick at it over the course of a day). I wouldn't recommend lunch either... You are creating a fussy eater and need to address the issue now.
sumosmum
Update from our household after 1 week. I have 5 dogs. The 3 that I inherited from my Mum, and my 2. A SBT, and 4 little terrier cross rescue dogs all up. All of them are enjoying the BH. The SBT has never really like dry food and would never eat it without something mixed in, but he actually likes to eat the BH any way he can get it. Straight or mixed. All of the others are also enjoying the dry food. All looking good, and very happy. One of the little dogs, the oldest one,was missing my Mum a lot I think (she was with my Mum when she died), and I noticed she dropped a bit of weight. She now seems to have put a bit of weight back on which I am pleased about. So, I am very pleased with this food for our family.
Olivebaby
Sorry, wasn't really considering the chicken wing as lunch. I though you meant kibble. she only eats about 4 or 5 a week so it's not always a regular thing. Depends if I'm him or not :-)
