I can see this thread turning sour as it has in the past, which is a pity. Especially if people think they can't come in here to ask questions incase they get shot down.

I won't ever be bringing anything about my dogs and BH again.

And I don't think I will suggest BH to anyone for fear of them someday signing on Dogz Online and ending up being singled out and having their words twisted.

I'm not changing his routine and locking him away all night. He already gets it pretty darn good for a dog who lives outside.

Just stating the BH isn't enough to maintain him over winter.

It is not unusual for any animal to need more food in winter. Humans tend to want more food too, lol. I don't think that can be blamed on BH not working.

I don't feed BH but read this thread as it is very entertaining, sorry! :o

I merely made a comment [never asked for any help, just a pure comment] and now I'm blaming BH for not working?

Yes you are. See the bolded comment. No one is twisting your words so settle down.

That isn't what I call blaming

Stop picking up on every damn thing I say about BH food. You don't feed it and we aren't here purely for your amusment.

EI substitute any other brand for BH in this comment posted by you

Just stating the BH isn't enough to maintain him over winter.

and the responses would be the same, you really need to get over your BH sensitivity.

Regardless of what brand or feeding regime your dog is on he needs more energy than the amount you are currently feeding gives him. He is a short coated breed outside in winter. Think about it and re read what everyone has said.

Why don't you all get over picking on me?

I have no sensitivty to BH, I have a sensitivty to being picked on all the time.

All your replies and boldings to everything I say make me feel like a terrible dog owner cause he has to sleep outside.

I love that dog to bits and would do anything for him and I don't post here to be picked on everything I say. Why doesn't anyone pick up on the good stuff I post?

I'm sorry I have read everything posted about my dog in an attacking way.

Badger now has a fleece lined coat and a new kennel.

why is it people think black hawk is the best dog food out there. Then they judge people if there pets don't do well on it. # of my dogs do alright on black hawk eg they scratch throughout the day. Shelley my golden retriever smells more when feed black hawk. Yes I still feed black hawk to 2 of my goldens and my chihuahua, Missy my whippet has horrible gas on black hawk since feeding her earthborn holistic grain free primitive she hasn't had such horrible gas. So black hawk doesn't suit every dog out.

If English.ivy wants to try another kibble to see if that would help then why not. To say cause the dog is outside in the cold is why it won't gain weight is bull, can someone please tell my golden retriever Shelley she should be lossing weight and be really thin,She and my other golden are both outdoor dogs altho there in a varander with a wood heater to lay in front of. Still outside in the cold yet Shelley doesn't find it hard to maintain her weight and she is only getting feed 1 cup a day.

MTS...I thought you were feeding your dogs RAW. According to you, your dogs used to do well on BH...here is the quote

Hi my dogs get emu oil each day as it is in there food. Black hawk holistic has emu oil in it. I have noticed my dogs coats have gotten softer, there coats are shiny, Buddy the old male golden has arthritis in his lower spine and the food is helping in reducing the pain,I have also noticed that Buddy wants to play more then he did before. Shelley has stopped scratching around her neck as much. I have also notice that Buddy hasn't got another ear infection yet either. (end of quote)

You have changed your dogs food around so much in the last few months, that you wouldn't have any idea what is making them itch or scratch or put on weight, or lose weight, or fart or stink or vomit or whatever. Any one who has read MTS previous posts will know what I mean. Poor Shelly, she is outside in the cold, with a lovely fluffy coat, a veranda & a wood fire to lay in front of, does no exercise...yeah...for sure she should be losing weight...get real!!

English Ivy...I hope you don't think my comments if I made any were picking on you. I get ribbed all the time by a few DOL's, but I don't let it get to me. There are lots of nice ones on here too that are offering advice in the best interest of you & your dog. I just learn to know who the "pickers" are...& don't even bother to read their posts. I am so glad Badger has a new coat & kennel, maybe try spraying something on it so he doesn't chew this one up, the kennel as well, if he's anything like my young guy, anything that looks new or different is there to be chewed. I don't think it would matter what you feed your dog, when it comes to winter most dogs in cold climates are going to need a bit more...just like us. Try him on some porridge made with real traditional rolled oats.

When is the chicken version coming out? I couldn't keep condition on my boy with the Black Hawk as well, I've tried a couple of different brands since and I think chicken based diets is what he does best on and would definitely be willing to give it another go.

I just put this on another post....so no...you are not seeing double (or is that yes, you are), but I thought I would post it here also as I feel it is important.

Just a word of caution for those using fish meal based dog food from the United States. Check out the level of ethoxyquin it contains. Fish meal is preserved with ethoxyquin on the ships prior to entering port. Ethoxyquin is most effective at preventing rancidity in the highly volatile fish meal. It is also a pesticide & herbicide. There is only a very small supply of "E" free fish meal available in the United States. TOTW say they don't add it, but it's there to start with...the cooking process does destroy some E but then they have to add other preservatives. For more information on ethoxyquin ...just do some Googling.

Until today I had never heard of it, but someone sent me a copy of an email sent to them from TOTW.

I just wanted to say that since Rudducks has become a wholesaler many shops have been directed by WOM to this thread and I must say that it has turned many off from stocking it not only from the comments about the food but sometimes the way those that have had negative experiences have been responded too

Who is WOM?

And I am not sure why it would put them off stocking it as the nasty responses are quite often from people who have little or no affiliation with the company, and if they do, it would be as a reseller so the shops would not be dealing with them they would be dealing with Sherel/Black Hawk or Rudducks directly.

That must be why the list of stockists has grown so greatly in the last few months, then. May I ask who "WOM" is??? please excuse my ignorance :) Some people are more attracted to "negatives" & tend to gloss over the positives. Good news does not sell newspapers.

I was considering having this thread closed and a new one started by someone else? Anyone else agree?

I'm guessing Word of Mouth? Possibly

Thanks Rumour :) you may be right.

Yes WOM = Word of Mouth and I am talking in SA. Stockists may have grown but there are some shops that are not taking it on because of threads such as these. Good news may not sell newspapers but bad public perception doesn't sell shelf space either. I was one that was keen on taking it on even before Rudducks even took it on, I have watched this thread with keen interest and as shelf space is valuable I only want one more range and it was between 3 including this one. I speak daily with reps and other store owners so do know what is going on in my state. Getting a line into a store is one thing but growing it and maintaining it is another.

One thing I have noticed in this economic climate (and I have been doing my research in store) is that more and more people are "special shopping" rather than being consistent with a brand of food. There is a market/demand for super premiums without the high end price tag and that is attractive in this market. I sell over $500k a year in super premium food and have been watching the sales proportions change and it is definately different than 18 months ago.

I simply made these comments to say that this thread is a source of research for some shops as it has been more popular in the pedigree dog world and that these comments obviously are being considered as feedback for those looking at investing large $$$ to stock it.

OSO shops such as mine research new products to evaluate whether or not to stock them and peoples experiences and opinions can be a valuable tool in doing so. Reps and companies will say their product makes the animals fart cherries and leave nuggets of gold on the lawn but consumers who spend their hard earned money on their beloved pets have nothing to gain from promoting a product if it doesn't work for them. I have seen both sides who heavily support it and those that do not but I also watch the reactions from those that comment too.

I would have thought the positive feedback in this thread and the amount of people feeding BH who are happy with it would by far outweigh the negatives. Not everyone can like everything!

I know quite a few people in real life who feed BH most with multiple dogs and not one have had any issues or have been unhappy with the product.

Our local stockist who me and a friend pushed/begged  to stock BH has said the popularity and feedback has been tremendous and she is wrapped in the response from people.

I see what you are saying, but surely they understand that not every dog food suits every dog and no one type or brand is only going to have only positive comments. BH may be great but if my dog does not tolerate Lamb then it will cause gas, sloppy poo and weight loss. That does not mean it is a bad food it just means my dog may not tolerate it.

I can see why poeple may look at this thread, but I would have though there were more positive comments than bad comments so I am not sure why anyone would be turned off by reading this thread?
