Levi
Hi all, With the huge number of ticks around at the moment, I am really worried about ticks on my Shelties. They are on fortnightly Advantix, and I check them regularly. However, I am far from confident I will find a tiny tick on them. Is it safe to spray them with Permoxin while they are on Advantix? Would it be better (and safe) to use a tick collar with Advantix? I don't want to overload them and jeopardise their immune system, but I also want to protect them as best I can. Several dogs I know have been affected by paralysis ticks even though they have been on Advantix, Frontline Plus, or Proban. Tilly
I have used Advantix and Permoxin together on our GSD with no issues ... personally I prefer to drench him in the permoxin and save my money on the Advantix. We nearly lost him with a tick and he was on Advantix and using a tick collar at the time ... made no difference. sheena
Last year my girl was on Proban 48 hourly plus Advantix fortnightly & she was still getting covered in little grass ticks which were driving her (& me) crazy. Vet said to do her with Permoxin daily AS WELL, as the others don't repel the ticks, plus antihistamines. I really thought that was a bit of an overload of chemicals I find the best way to apply the Permoxin is with a sponge, but it is a bit useless if the dog is in swimming most days. aussielover
Permoxin is the same ingredient that is in Advantix so there is really no advantage to using both. You would probably be better off using Advantix and frontline spray. Or you could just use the permoxin spray by itself and just drench the dog in it as Tilly suggested Or proban tablets and permoxin or FL spray if you are really concerned.
