Sorry to post here, but I am fostering a very special dog who I just KNOW will excel at dog sports. She a 10 month old working lines BC called Dash. She is the softest, most lovely little dog who is so eager to please. She is very very bright! She desperately needs something to do so if you (or someone you know) are after a dog to do herding, agility, obedience, etc with please consider Dash! She shows good natural herding ability (just ask my cats and rabbits!!) and is learning basic obedience very quickly. She is not interested in balls or toys yet (she didn't have any toys growing up) but she is easy to motivate with treats or even just praise. Please send me a pm or an email at [email protected] if you would like to know more.

I'm certainly no expert Vickie, but I believe it is a learnt behaviour from her previous home, because she is actually quite pushy as well. I'll give you some examples to try and explain it better. :mad If you walk up to her, she will roll over and show her belly. If you scold her, she flips over on her back. I will not pat her or acknowledge her unless she is sitting up though and she is learning this very quickly. But if I am playing with another dog, she will push in between us. Also, if you are sitting on the ground she will repeatedly push into your hands, try and climb on your lap, etc even if you push her away and say 'no'. She is good with all of my dogs except the oldest bitch. She is not nasty with her, she just wants to hassle her. She is very sensitive to correction (just raising your voice will make her stop whatever she is doing). She pretty much heels perfectly offlead simply because she is so focussed on people. She is definitely a 'people' dog rather than a dog dog, IYKWIM.

I have been doing some basic obedience with Dash and she is learning so quickly. She now does the fastest automatic sits I've ever seen LOL, drops (and stays down 99% of the time), heels nicely, and we are now working on stay and come. I want to work on 'stand' next, but she is so quick with her sits I'm not sure how to do stands!

Dash went to her first herding clinic this morning and she showed some great potential! The instructors have offered some half price lessons to whoever adopts her, because they think she will be a fantastic herding dog. :rainbowbridge:

ETA: She is definitely NOT shy or submissive around the sheep either! LOL!

I had so much fun Jules. I let the instructors work Dash today (I was scared she was going to attack the sheep, she was so keen :rainbowbridge:) but next time I'm going to try. Will you be going there any time soon?

I couldn't really tell you for sure, because she shares the yard with my dogs. She was an only dog at her previous home, but I'm not sure what she was like. She does bark occasionally at my rabbits or the cats in the enclosure, but she is not an excessive barker. She is also very calm indoors. She really needs a working/sporting home though. I have had lots of enquiries from people wanting a pet, but I just think this dog needs to be doing something.
