Yep - I'm on committee and I think I am judging as well plus running 2 dogs and donating the most versatile worker trophy :) I will be there all weekend - Piper and Jazz on B course ducks, Jazz on B course sheep. Piper on A course ducks and Jazz on A course sheep, might run her on A course ducks as well but the $$ start to add up a bit so will see how we go. She can work ducks beautifully and did a gorgeous run at the last trial but I am a bit unsure how she will go working them when the sheep are RIGHT there and the ducks are in paddocks that she knows the sheep are usually in, she has refused to work ducks before and gone looking for sheep but she has also had a lot more training and experience since then. Well, we got a pass! Score of 88 under a lovely SA judge (who I am sure is lovely even if she hadn't passed me :laugh: ). Second run not so good on very light sheep, got a bit stuck heading to the Y so I called it, but Cash tried hard (and kept his lovely wide flanks that we have been working so hard on, yay). Herding is just one of those sports (if you're doing it as a sport, like me) where you have to have access to stock, or not do it I have only had regular access to stock for the last couple of years (my dog is 6), I took more than a year off at one stage due to lack of access, and pursued other interests. Now that I have sheep to train on, things are coming along more quickly. But if I couldn't get that stock time, I'd be doing other things. Off balance. Flank (or stop). LOL, that is so me with sheep. Ducks do fetch, just not quite the same as sheep. His second go here, new house, new poultry and he was perfect. I think he works himself up at training because of the other dogs then goes into over working it mode.
