superminty
These are pics from Cash's first go on ducks a few years back. Don't have any more recent ones as he has decided that ducks are no fun and has switched off working them
Weasels
Thanks guys, it was a great day all around with an interstate judge in who was lovely. There were lots of great scores with some difficult stock. Plus I got to look after Sherlot's wee human baby who was an absolute trooper through a long day :D Piper - I've been meaning to ask, is there any judging training being run in SA? OH is interested but he probably can't get through the course here before we move back to Adelaide at the end of the year. piper
Weasels, SA is DESPERATE for judges, we would well and truly support and assist someone wanting to train as a judge. In SA we do it as test levels first and then course by course usually starting with A course (well so far always starting with A course as until recently it is all that we ran). Here is an album I have on Facebook of a duck herding day we held http://www.facebook....0816.700954050/ And this is a pic of Piper taken by someone else that same day, eta: The picture in my signature of Jazz was her first time ever on ducks at about 6 or 8 months of age. Weasels
Awesome thanks Piper I'll let him know He was thinking of doing the theory over here (since a few ppl will be probably be doing the course here this year) and applying to do the practical in SA? -- (I have duck herding photos on the previous page of this thread too :D)
piper
Um I would have to look into that - I am not sure that it is allowed or allowed without seeking permission first anyway. There was talk of me doing my prac in Vic at 1 stage and that was going to create huge issues. I'll PM you my email address, we have an herding advisory meeting tomorrow night and I can bring it up there if you email me a few details :)

superminty
Haha, thanks piper. Just found out that Cash won his Intermediate class at our state trial. The runs were split over two days so the placings couldn't be determined until the rest of the class ran today. Finally he is starting to pay his way

I think runner up HIT was a Rottie. The entry was disappointing, I think a lot of our usual triallers had other commitments that particular weekend, or decided not to enter for whatever reason. The recent RTB Rottie trial had more entries I believe!
Inevitablue
Thanks for the duck photos. Fascinates me! I cant wait to watch (and participate in) ducks. Weasles, your judge would have been a lady who has helped me so much over here in Sydney. She is a gem. Congrats to all the great results Question - did the Vic trial have cattle as well? superminty
No cows, they are only run at their home ground, the state trial was at a different venue.
Inevitablue
Hopefully I get to meet some of you, the plan is to enter the RCV trial at the end of September. Of course it clashes with the breed class at Melbourne Royal so pending our PT run this weekend I might just have my girl with me while I send the boy to the show with someone else. Yay!! I get to watch the ducks :) I will just enter the cattle A course

I have secret plans to get a cattle dog at some stage :D At the moment, I am the only one entering ducks at trials, and I probably won't enter ducks at that trial as my dog has lost the plot on those grounds, so hopefully some others will enter. Inevitablue
I have plans to try my girl on ducks. I think she will be great on them. I just dont have any ducks to practice on before hand. Cattle she will have some experience with but not on course. I think I should just focus on one livestock for this trip. If my boy can somehow manage a PT before the entries close I might enter him in the cattle started. He knows his sides, the stop is coming but its a little chaotic keeping him off the sheep. He does everything at a zillion miles an hour and thinks the sheep should also move at the same speed. Cattle will naturally back him off I'm guessing. At the moment he keeps over flanking then turning the head, although I know its my handling as well. An experienced guy was watching us on the weekend and he said through all the chaos he could see that the dog was trying to bring the sheep infront of me. I just haven't got the trust yet to let him stay on balance. Someone pointed out that ACD's like to have all their stock lined up, so the heels that are out of line get nipped. Until he learns not to do that so zealously I just can't relax when he is fetching. Sigh.... my two are like chalk and cheese. She has instinct but just herds to please me, whereas he is soooo eager and fixates on the stock.
Dova
I know this isn't really herding related, but my old working dog JC turned 15 today, she took the sheep out with extra enthusiasm this morning then ran down the paddock with the other dogs to get the paper, aahh she's still got it . Pebbles, the Aussie, is 5yo today so it's party food all round tonight, girls. Izzi has to wait till next month she'll be 5 too. Now back to the herding stuff, I gotta get to a Victorian trial , coming back over for a training weekend next month, can't wait.

I'll get in touch :) I think it arrives around the 8th and then it is just getting it to where you will be but that should be doable. Otherwise I will have to arrange a courier which I can do if I have to but would be great if someone could pick it up - I would feel happier as it would be safer.
