Ive been told warm diluted tea works but you should also look at your dogs diet as poor quality foods with nasty ingredients can be the cause if not a medical condition.Im sure theres plenty of members with more knowledge than me here who can elaborate on this. shazlm64 Posted October 21, 2010 Share Posted October 21, 2010 Totally agree, hairs growing inside the corners of their eyes irritate and block their tear ducts making the problem much worse. Most tearing seems to stop once they have finished teething until then really all you can do after the vet check has cleared them of any physical problems is wash daily under their eyes with warm water to keep it as clean as possible and then dry. Apart from the advice given,re eye lashes etc.there is a product TROY put out around $10.00 online for this problem... ,has any-one tried it? Show people with white dogs would know. It only seemed to start at 4-5 months and constant cleaning has lessened it but not got rid of it completely. We even tried to clip the hair right back to the skin but to no avail. If you find something that works, let us know because I would also be interested in finding a safe solution. WreckitWhippet Posted October 25, 2010 Share Posted October 25, 2010 Nothing is going to be effective if it's medical or diet related. You need to find and fix the source of the problem. It can be as simple as removing yeast, grains, preservatives and colouring from the diet or there could be as others have pointed out, an issue with the ducts, lashes or eyelids. I would think that tea would serve the stain the area even further, lol. I can see what tea does to my coffee mug....let alone to a white coated dog. Tear stains i have to say that tomato paste thing worked with Emmy She did go to the specialist and she is 100% healthy. Her eyes are fine and so are her eyelashes (but she does have long eyelashes). moggy Posted November 1, 2010 Share Posted November 1, 2010 My white Chihuahua had very bad tear stains. Tried every, and I mean EVERY treatment suggested as well as $300 on an op on her tearducts. Nothing worked. Then I discovered Angels Eyes. Initially I was unable to get it as it was only available in USA and could not be shipped to Australia because of its beef base. Now it is available in Australia with a vegetable base. It is expensive at first but now Sophie only has 1/2 scoop once a week. I thoroughly recommend this product to anyone with this problem. ozjen Posted November 2, 2010 Share Posted November 2, 2010 My Papillon use to get bad tear staining until I changed him to raw feeding, now his eyes are great given that he is an old dog, (as seen in my signature). A little Apple cidar vinegar in the dogs water can help as well as it balances the dogs PH levels.
