it's very possible the treat I gave him went into his lung

Just on this point - look I know we all bash ourselves up when something happens to our pets but bad stuff sometimes happens and you have no control over that. Try not to give yourself a hard time.

Oh I forgot to say it appears he has a collapsed lung and it's very possible the treat I gave him went into his lung

dont blame yourself, for goodness sake. over the years well decades ive had dogs, i have had two do exactly that, both guts. both would grab and literaly breathe their food down. never forget the day was giving chicken necks and dropped the bag and shanti sucked down the lot?

didnt chew, nuffing, just suck n they were all gone. somehow she didnt choke but a chihuhua puppy tried the same thing with her puppy porrige and no way i could save her, she was gone befoe i even made it to the car.

some of em are just accidents looking for a good spot.

wouldnt wish it on anyone.

best of luck, he is such a adorable boy. if prayers will help theres a ton of them heading your way.

you should see what a horse is capable of. goodness. checked little blaze yesterday and she looks like she fell into a chaff cutter. she has hair off every leg in sort of stripes including across her sides?

pretty swollen legs but fortunately nothing broken or deep. but considering the paddock is as flat as a bowling green. like what the? n how on earth?

n she aint saying. never forget my brothers filly. same scenario except her leg was snapped like a carrot. accidents happen no matter how safe an area u thing is or how careful you are. gee i was looking after my brothers kids for 2 weeks once. they were playing on the front lawn. he was comming down the drive to pick them up and suddenly crying. yep she stumbled n broke her arm?

couldnt even hand over an undamaged child?

Oh geez, how heartbreaking.

Not a decision I would want to make at all. If he can lead a good life after the op, I'd be all for it. Big hugs coming your way.

Do they know what caused it all?

Re the pet insurance thing, I'm pretty sure it's a 30 day wait from when you sign up anyway, so try not to beat yourself up over that.

Thinking of Chase today and sending all the healing vibes I can.

Just another quick update. Chase is about to undergo a ct scan so they know exactly what they are looking at. They do know he has a collapsed lung but are nit sure yet whether that's caused by a foreign body. Ct scan will show. If it a foreign body they may be able to pull it out depending exactly where it is andthe condition of his lung tissue otherwise they will have to do a lobectomy which is removing part of his lung.

Chrwbacca, sorry, I missed a call( and 4 others lol) while in consult with the vet. I'm not sure about lort smith, apparently he needs a specialist in lung ops and my vet rang quite a few vets last night but not many are prepared to do it. I think I can scrape the finances together somehow, i just need to get them back in my bank before settlement date for our house and all i can say is this vet is an angel. Will update u all when I know more. Running out of battery life fast.

So very sorry to hear of this setback.

I hope they can find the cause of the problem.

Don't beat yourself up about the treat - I'd say this falls into the realm of "freak accident". Millions of dogs scoff millions of treats without this happening.

No worries Kaffy. My vet said that from what you have said on here the specialist is the only way to go. He also said that the cost is valid for the expertise, equipment and staffing. A normal collapsed lung surgery is around $1200-$1500 and can be done without a specialist but a foreign body is a whole new ball game. You obviously did you research, if you are where I think you are in excellent hands.

My vet has offered to talk to you if you are lacking confidence with and decisions but you are obviously happy with it all so best of luck with everything/

What an emotional roller-coaster ride you've been on the last 24 hours, fingers crossed that it can all be resolved without an op!

Will be thinking of you and Chase, hope things continue to improve over the weekend
