Silverblue
Hi I hope Chase is going to be Ok. We had a simialar thing happen to a dog I had, He got violently ill at the Adelaide royal one year, same symptoms, vomiting, collapsed, etc, after telling the officials in no uncertain terms where they could stick their regulations, and rushed him to the vet. They diagnosed anifalactic (sp) shock due to a bite/sting of some sort, he was gravely ill and like you I didn't hold much hope for him to recover, but with the right treatment he bounced back and I could have shown him 2 days later, such a scary/awful time though. So I hope your boy has the same outcome, and that my account gives you a very small piece of mind.
Little Gifts
I've just come back from an emergency trip to the vets myself but our outcome was good. I'm so very sorry you had this horrific experience with your lovely boy and I hope he pulls through and you find out what caused it. Even if they can't find a bite mark I think they can tell from how the dogs body is reacting. My vet just did those checks on my dog (gums, lymph nodes) but said there were no signs relevant to a tick or a snake bite. I would also think the symptoms of a snake bite would show up fairly quickly as it moves through the blood stream. I've had 3 spider bites myself and with the worst one the affect happened within minutes in the local area and not long after throughout other areas of my body. I'll be sending healing thoughts Chase's way. Poor bubba.

matilda1
I feel so sad reading this. You did very well to react as quickly as you did. I woud have sped too....and I am always the one on the other end of the phone telling owners to drive safely. Snake bite can affect different dogs differently but bleeding from the lungs is not usually a symptom that presents. Bee sting in the throat??? I wouldn't think bleeding from the lungs either.....but then, the blood may not have been coming from the lungs. It could have been the back of the throat or tongue especially if it was swollen and in the collapse your dog bit his tongue? All other symptoms ie: collapse etc would point to snake bite. Have they run a detection kit? In any case, I am crossing all fingers and toes for you and hope he makes a speedy recovery for you. I am sure he is in good hands even with the vet you have little faith in. Usually clinic policies will ensure all staff act in the same manner, and if this vet is uncertain let me assure you he/she will be on the phone either to the vet you DO trust or to the specialists or emergency centres for advice. Baileys mum
I hope your beautiful Chase will be ok KM, what a horrible shock for you sending healing vibes & hugs to you. There are lots of bees around my property at the moment, I caught my pup Jasper (same age as Chase ) trying to catch one in his mouth this morning. Lucky I was able to stop him before he got stung. We also have a few Brown snakes lurking around at the moment, so we just to be so careful when we let the dogs go outside at this time of year. I will be praying that little chase will make a full recovery. Nicole

Kaffy Magee
Thanks to everyone for the prayers and thoughts. It means alot and I hope it pulls him through. OK, its not snake bite. He has had a severe anyphylactic reaction to something. My guess would be bees, as Im sure being the curious little monkey he would have decided to chase one if it flew by and there are heaps here at the moment. The vet asked about poisons, we have none around, even asked if he had had a knock or fall, which to my knowledge he hadnt, I didnt even know that could cause anaphylaxis, but apparently it can. He has fluid in the chest, which apparently is also a symptom of anaphylaxis. He is breathing a bit better but not normal, they have removed the tube from the throat but he has one up his nose with the oxygen, he is on drip and on medication for the fluid in his chest. He has had antihistimine, cortisone and something to stimulate his heart. He is not out of the woods, the vet couldnt tell me if he would survive the night, maybe they are not allowed incase people get their hopes up, but he couldnt really even say if things looked promising Hang in there Chazzy, I love you xxxx
