wagsalot
I haven't had much time to use my camera lately but Im heading overseas shortly and it would be nice to get a decent lens before I go. I currently have the standard kit lens that came with my camera (350d) - 18-55 (which has taken a beating and needs to be replaced) I have a decent zoom lens, and I have the 50 1.8 I need to replace my kit lens - so after some suggestions on lens to replace it with - Price range under $500 would be nice. Any suggestions would be appreciated - Im not good with camera talk so really don't know what to look for. I just want something similar to the kit lens that takes a decent shot. Guest Tess32
The Sigma 17-70 is a great replacement for the 18-55 and a great price.

kja
You need the Canon mount - there's only one Edited October 20, 2010 by kja
wagsalot
So they aren't interchangable? the pentax or nikon mount won't fit? Not many places seem to have the canon mount, and the ones that do are a fair bit more expensive than the pentax mount ones
kja
No, they aren't interchangeable. You need to buy the mount that matches the body you have. Usually there's not much between the Nikon and Canon price-wise.

kja
Looks to be For an extra few bucks you can get the OS version, though. This link doesn't say that it is the newer OS version. I have the old version without OS and don't miss it, fwiw. Edited October 20, 2010 by kja

kja
LOL if you'd ordered it back when this thread first started, you would have had it by now! Maybe wherever you are going will have on locally.
wagsalot
I know I umm and ahhh too much! Im going to England - and from what I've seen - their lenses seem to be more expensive over there to buy. Serves me right for leaving everything to the last minute! kja
Yup, they usually are - and sometimes quite a lot. Are you staying with any friends while you are there? Most US companies won't ship to a hotel but they will ship if you can give them a real address. it could be there waiting for you
wagsalot
Yeah I am staying with relo's. By the time I work in shipping etc it gets quite pricey, compared to buying it here and getting gst back. I might just wait til I get back and make do in the meantime. Edited to add - Im guessing if you buy a lens overseas, and it breaks, it would have to be sent back overseas? kja
Canon lenses are international warranty. Canon bodies are local warranty.
