Kirislin
Poor Tag sliced a chunk of foot off up at the park today. I didn't even realise initially cause he wasn't (and still isn't) limping. It was only when I saw the blood I realised he'd been hurt. It doesn't seem to bother him and apart from the fluff stuck to it, I am inclined to leave it open. Especially as he'll soon be nesting and wont move until morning. Just wanted to see what others would do. and for cute factor, here's an out take, just as I was taking the pic, Nurse Feather came to check. curlygirl
Being a vet nurse I'd leave it open but bathe it twice daily with diluted betadine or similar. Restrict exercise and watch for licking at it.
poodlefan
Leave it open. Dog pads are tough. That will be much better in just a few days.
Kirislin
Thank you Drs. Curlygirl and Poodlefan, I concur with your diagnosis. :D
Erny
Although I'd be inclined to bandage/protect it, during exercise time - only so that it gets a chance to heal over. :D Was Nurse Feather wearing her Nurse's cap?
matilda1
I'd be inclined to bandage only for the fact of it being stood on constantly and exposure to dirt being on the pad. it doesn't look deep or particulary nasty but would do this simply to keep it clean. I think it will heal quite nicely either way though. :D

Bullbreedlover
I would leave it open Maggie sliced her pad open almost exactly like that. I bathed it twice a day to remove dirt etc and she healed as good as new.She was also on restricted exercise until I could see it was healing properly. Tilly
When my brat sliced his foot - I used a bootie when walking him in public etc so he didn't pick up any nasty infections.
Loves Dogs
I would leave it open and bath twice daily with warm salty water to remove any dirt. The air will help dry it out and heal. Oh and restrict exercise (I think I saw that you will be doing that anyway. Good luck
