Evolving
It was a good day out and was nice to meet some more DOL people. I may have to come back next time. The girls are sleeping like logs atm. I think Alera enjoyed chasing the lure. Maybe she needs to get into lure coursing when she gets older. Ons
the photos are stunning! Most of the whippets are muzzled. Can I ask why? It's not compulsory to muzzle them like greyhounds is it? I would imagine it's just because with the high excitement of racing and lots of dogs safer to do so?

I would imagine it's just because with the high excitement of racing and lots of dogs safer to do so? I have read that because whippets have such thin skin, and because they're going so fast, even a gentle nip at high speed can do some pretty serious tearing damage. It's quite an extraordinary thing to see whippys at a run day. They're normally amongst the quietest of dogs, but as they approach the starting line they're whining and yapping and howling and barking. It's hard to believe until you see it. I really could imagine our dogs, who have long been patient and gentle with our 4 yo daughter, actually get so excited that they might bite. It's not compulsory to muzzle them like greyhounds is it? I would imagine it's just because with the high excitement of racing and lots of dogs safer to do so? It's not compulsory to muzzle them on the street like greyhounds are, but our club has made a rule that they should be muzzled when running. Whippets can be a bit like Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, they go from these gentle elegant dogs to screaming crazies. Occasionally if they're really excited some will bite their handler or another dog and they dont really know what they're doing. I've had Kibah bite my leg and another friend had her hand badly bitten by her dog. Although it doesn't happen alot we want to be safe.
