Why Can't People Just Follow The Rules!

Dear stupid bitch dog owner who was at the lake near Fitzy's in South Lake today,

If you happen to read this, I'd just like to let you know I don't appreciate having my puppy rushed at by 2 dogs OFF LEAD in a ON LEAD park.

Despite getting in front of my dog and screaming at your dogs to go away, you couldn't recall your dogs back. You should work on that.

The next time you see someone trying to distance away from you, take a hint: they might NOT want to interact with your dogs and just want to have a nice, quiet walk after a long day.

Much love,

quickbrownfox

BTW anyone else who had a bad walk recently while trying to do the right thing, let out your frustration here.

Today I drove past an onlead sports oval with a kids playground, BBQ areas and a path around it that kids bike ride along etc, full of people as obviously someone was having a kids birthday party there. I saw a woman with one onlead dog (fine), but then saw her other THREE dogs, offlead, running down the path towards some young kids, at least 50m away from this woman. Too bad if one of her dogs knocks a toddler over and starts a lifelong fear of dogs. With dedicated off-lead dog parks in every council area, some people are just selfish and lazy.

The current fad in my neighbourhood is to have the dogs out without their owners.

In the last 12 months we've been hassled/rushed by a pair of German Shepherds (dog aggressive, no owner in sight), a pair of Jack Russell Terriers (dog aggressive, no owner in sight), a pair of chunky medium sized boofas ( stalked us but didn't attack, no owner in sight) and a Labrador (dog aggressive, no owner in sight).

And then there was the off-lead Staffordshire Bull Terrier and the Boxer - both of whom had owners but they couldn't call their dogs off. Both were DA.

This is in the street, not a dog park. And I'm not even counting the loose dogs that were friendly. It's ridiculous.

Happened to me today, I really don't get the annoying dogs where I live but I was in a different town this time walking around the park.

We had stopped for a little bit too reorganise the lead situation, have a puppy that is still learning to walk with two other dogs without zizagging, running underneath and in front of other dogs, when I turned around to see a BC about 10 metres away stalking toward us owner was sitting on a bench a little further away watching :cheer:

Didn't look unfriendly more like wanting to round us up but with a baby pup wasn't going to take the chance.

So I stood in front of mine, growled at it and tried to scare it away, it stopped advancing but then both my adult dogs stood up next too me and started growling at it as well (they are a bit protective of pup outside the yard) and baby pup barked at it too go away. :D Guess 2 1/2 dogs and 1 person was too much and it took off back too it's owner who was looking a bit worried! Told him too leash the damn thing before it gets its arse kicked by either dog or human.

Having had a reactive dog and walked DA dogs before, I find it is strange when people say "don't worry he/she is friendly" when their dog is rushing yours...

I always find it odd that people assume you're trying to pull your dog away because you're afraid/worried about their dog- especially when your dog is a large GSD, rotty, any breed that generally looks like it should be able handle itself etc

Condsidering my dog is much larger and stronger than yours... what possible reason would i have to worry about him? I'm more concerned for the safety of your dog!

I've even had people say this to me with SWFs!

I hate those situations... I'm always at a loss for the right things to say, so could someone on DOL print a T Shirt along the lines of:

" Thanks for ruining our walk"

" It's NOT OK, your dog is NOT friendly"

" Your dog don't bite but I do!"

" Off duty Ranger" (with Lucky I'm not a in small print before it)

I know DOLers can come up with better, so any other suggestions for shirts?

Very good suggestions Whippetmum!

I don't know why I just assume they are mentally deficient!

When I had my Dobes, they were extrememly well trained and could be called off a dog that was attacking them. They did not start a fight but where more than happy to finish it if not called off - not that I let that happen. What used to annoy me was when people would sing out - Oh Fluffy is frinedly. I would reply - have you ever though that mine isn't?? You would then have a flurry while they attempted to get their dog back and failed miserably. Then the reaction would be something along the lines of - You shouldn't own an aggressive dog, why would you have a dog that isn't frinedly, why are you walking it here???

I would then reply oh She is okay, but not all dogs are and Fluffy has just ran in hackles up and teeth out and she has a right to defend herself which I will let her and she will, so think about it and keep Fluffy out of other dogs faces!

There was one time I thought we were in big trouble though. I had seen a large dog coming so instead of just callign her to heal I put her on a lead. This dog I had seen through work and he was a large Rotti cross with a coat a bit like a Goldie. He was fine with people but as it turned out not so with dogs.

They tried to call him he didn't listen. The said oh he is friendly. Well 50 to 60 kgs of dog walking at me with stiff legs, head up, hackles up and teeth bared didn't look to friendly to me!!!!

I was having a quick debate of what to do and decided to get ifnront of my dog and in a growly voice telol him to get lost. It took a couple of times he circled a little then decided to leave - my dog didn't growl or anything but was looking very uncomfortable. They said why did you have to be so nasty to him, he only wanted to say hello!!!!!!!

I was not planning for my 30kg Dobe to have to defend herself from that!

People just have NO idea!
