Dog Bed

Any of you using a old mattress with an old base as a dog bed & have your dog/s ever chewed them up?

Asking as we have an old bed & thought of letting Baxter use it but hubby think he might chew it up..??

I know we can buy a pet bed but thought we could use that or would it attract fleas? etc??

My dogs use MY bed as their bed. They don't chew it up and I wash the sheets regularly...

So using an old bed & base is fine. If he's a puppy he might chew a dog bed up too.

Are you talking about inside or outside? While you're there or away from home? Permanently or as a short term solution til he's finished chewing?

What about crate training?

Good beds for dogs are ones they are comfortable in and what you can afford. My outside dogs have two old couches a couple of armchairs plus a couple of trampoline beds (with the steel frame and the wool sack). My inside dogs have small fluffy beds from cheap as chips, plus a couple of baskets (a cane one and a foam one) and my bed.

For inside our unused double garage we either going to use the bed of shove it to the dump..rather use it :D

we gave our old futon to my wolfhound x. gave it to him during the day. next morning we woke to a sea of fluff in the backyard. two years later we still find fluff around...

I once put a dble bed mattress in the backyard, intending to take it to the dump. My then dog completly shredded the mattress and it was a huge job picking up all the bits lol. So I would NEVER give a dog a mattess again!

Akira has destroyed every dog bed she's been given. I don't trust her with anything that remotely resembles a mattress/dog bed anymore. Until she's finished chewing everything up, she gets towels.

Well we gave our dogs an old bed thinking how nice that would be for them. It lasted ONE night and was shredded beyond recognition, even the springs were twisted ! Then I gave them an old sofa..........slow learner here this human LOL!

If you're going to dump it anyway I would just give it to him and see how he goes. If he doesn't chew it up, you've saved $$ on a dog bed.
