Better Flea Treatment?

We use Spectrum Sentinal Chews once a month as a heart/intestinal and flea treatment.

During winter I found it great. But in the past two months I've had to also give Poppy a Capstar table 3 times because I have actually spotted fleas on her.

I had never seen a flea on her until recently so I can't help but thinking the Spectrum Sentinal isn't working as well as it used to?

I'm thinking maybe we should get Poppy the 12 month heart worm shot now she is older?

And then just focus on monthly intestinal and flea treatment?

Any advice with regards to this? I find that there seem to be SO many products on the market!

Sentinel Spectrum is a good product for long term control of flea problems, but the way it work means that is sterilises adult fleas so they can't lay eggs, however it wont kill fleas.

If you're finding that you have fleas, then you may need to use a topical product such as Frontline or Advantage in addition. If this is the case, I would suggest switching to Interceptor Spectrum and then using the topical.

Which product is going suit you best is really going to be determined by what type of treatment you want - ie, if you're happy with separate treatments, want an 'all in one', want the heartworm injection and then deal with only fleas and worms.

Sentinel is great, but like above it doesn't kill adult fleas only breaks the life cycle.

You can use Comfortis along with the sentinel, then you will killing adult fleas as well as stopping the cycle.

Or you can change the sentinel when it runs out to the Interceptor septrum, as some say using the sentinel with the comfortis is a little overkill, and interceptor is cheaper.

Personally, I use sentinel and comfortis together, as my dog seems to have Flea allergy, so the vet has instructed to continue using both together for a double combat effect.

I use Advocate as it kills the Adult flea and we live in the flea capitial of Australia! We don't have a tick problem though and if we do have ticks they are just kangaroo ticks.
