GoldenGirl85
Or more specifically North Haven, my parents are going up next weekend with their dogs, they currently live in a tick free area so Im wondering if I should tell them to get a spot on for the weekend or not, what do you guys think? sheena
I would say so as Coffs Harbour is not that far north of Port & it is a real haven for ticks. any where on the north coast is tick country. Put the spot on well before they leave home & daily searching is vital as the spot on is not 100%. I use Advantix.
_PL_
Yes, it definitely is. And do check daily whatever products you use. Vets often stock those little tick remover tools if you aren't practiced at pulling them out.
GoldenGirl85
Thankfully Ive never had to deal with them before, I use Advantix on my girls and so far we havnt experienced one, would the supermarket brand be suitable considering its only for a weekend? only because Advantix is quite expensive and they dont need it back home at all, its only protection for a few days ETA I dont actually know if they would be able to purchase those sorts of products there, I do know you can get the exelpet tick and flea at the supermarket though Edited October 16, 2010 by GoldenGirl85

Something like Killtic (spelling??) will still cost them around $15 each.....but much cheaper than a trip to the vet with tick parallalys
_PL_
I don't really trust the supermarket stuff. Ordering online is a bit cheaper if you have time before they leave. And the tick collars I see used most are Preventic, but collars take longer to spread the pesticide across the dog's skin so presumably would need to go on in advance? - not sure if they like getting wet either.
