Puppy Bedwetting Incident

This morning we woke up and discovered that Elbie seems to have thrown up overnight and also wet his crate. He hasn't wet his bed since he was a very tiny puppy. I don't think he was in his crate too long overnight - no longer than usual. Checking him this morning, he doesn't seem unwell in any way and is his usual bouncy self.

One possibility is that in the middle of the night last night, the neighbour's two dogs went absolutely insane and started barking and howling like crazy. The neighbours have just put in some sort of aviary/chicken coop and it is possible that the birds attracted a fox which would explain why their dogs went crazy. It's possible that Elbie woke up abruptly/was frightened and wet himself but I just don't know.

It's a bit concerning. Like I said, he doesn't seem unwell at all so it doesn't warrant a trip to the vet because there's nothing to actually see/observe. If he does it again tonight then we'll consider a vet check.

Are 8 month puppies prone to have the occasional bedwetting accident? :(

did he have an especially active day that would've had him exhausted by bedtime? On occasions my whippets have actually wet the bed, without knowing. They weren't sick, just exhausted. Penny did it once or twice after racing, she's even poo'ed in the bed!!!! ewwww! thank goodness they were hard dry little pebbles but I dont like waking up and finding I've been sleeping with a dog turd!!

Throwing up and wetting the bed... my very first thought was a seizure ... probably way off mark... but just seems an odd pair of happenings...unless he woke up nauseous, threw up, then just HAD to pee as he was wide awake?

Poor boy.

Thanks Persephone. Just to be safe, I just phoned our vet and had a chat. As he is not lethargic, is still bouncy and happy, is not off his food and seems fine, they said not to worry too much right now. They said if the same thing happens tonight, we should definitely bring him back tomorrow for a check-up.

Hi :) ;)

I haven't spoken to you for AGES.

looks like Elbie is going great apart from his little bed incident.

I wouldn't worry too much. Katie still has the occasional slip up too.

I hope you are well.

Thanks! I'm so glad to have you back! I also said re-hi to you in the Elbie thread. Hope to see you there again soon - and also in the Kelpie thread!

Thanks for that. Elbie's fine now, I always worry too much :) Just in case, we actually took him out at 3.30am for the two nights after his incident but he seems totally fine again about sleeping through the night again. Elbie's been very solid with his toilet-training so far - stands by the door to give a little yip to be let out. Thank goodness HIS toilet-training went well.
