Cazstaff
It has taken me over a week to be able to do this. I can't believe how much this little girl meant to us and just how deeply we loved her when we had only known her for 4 short days.. April came to us as a rescue from Hawkesbury Pound, it was instant as soon as we saw her sweet smiley face. Little did we know we only had 4 days to enjoy and indulge this darling. Sadly April was suffering from heart failure due to a severe Aortic Stenosis. She was only 1 year old . By Friday she was in the hands of a Cardiac specialist at ARH thanks to the $$ generosity of the big hearted rescue people on this forum. Bless them, I will be eternally grateful for their help in giving this beautiful deserving wee soul the very best chance at life possible. As it turned out even if we had an open cheque book we couldnt save April , knowing this didnt ease the pain of making that decision we all dread. As a result of the heart failure she was suffering from respiratory distress and wet lung by Friday afternoon. At 5.18pm on October 1 2010 my Sweet April took her last breath in my loving arms, while lying on my chest, nibbling on the crackly ear of her favorite blanky bunny toy and smiling up at me. No more would she struggle. I couldn't see through the tears and the heartache & loss I felt was huge. She was lovingly laid in a pretty white box on a soft mat for us to bring home. My daughter Leah nursed her with such care all the way home. We buried her the following day with very heavy hearts and lots of tears. Many of us will never forget this little dog, she went from being a homeless and nameless dog in the pound to a much loved family member who was spared nothing in our efforts to help her. Her family included many people from the DOL rescue forum and Hawkesbury Pound Staff and volunteers. I was privelidged to have known her, loved her, cuddled her, slept with her, watched her enjoy yummy food in abundence and experience the joy the love of a family brings. Im grateful I could fill her last days with kindness and care and give her a peaceful end to her life, feeling very much loved and safe and happy. Im glad she had so many people to cry for the injustice she sufferred in being discarded by her owner to die alone so young. Too many beautiful dogs die in pounds every day homeless, nameless and with no one to even shed a tear for them , I find that tragic. This youtube link is a collection of photo's from her last few days... Run free at the bridge my beautiful girl, you will be in my heart always

Little Gifts
I don't really have the words to express how I feel and I can't see to type very well through my tears. April was a special girl and represents the wonderful and sorrowful sides of rescue. She was with the most amazing family for those last few days. It is a true tragedy that her life wasn't longer and happier. I'm sorry for the sadness in your household from her loss. RIP Sweet Girl xxx PS I think her cross is beautiful - the work of Leah?
