Ideas For Replacing River Stones..

Ok - following on from my last post about Earl eating the river stones I would like to ask DOLers advice about what to replace them with - the vet suggested mulch or bark chips?

The area is along the fence behind the retaining wall - it was really muddy before and the kelpie does zoomies along the fence after the local possum

Piccies show where the stones are now - this is what we need to replace

Pea straw mulch ..and maybe a lowish deterrent fence?

Fence is a good idea - he doesn't tend to worry too much about that area so it might be enough to put him off ;)

Gravel??? You can get different colours of gravel! Anything you put there unless it's really heavy is going to get trailed back onto the lawn tho if the dogs keep going up there. Also, woodchip tends to disintegrate and sink down after a while.

So fence with gravel or something similar might be good.

We use the larger 75 - 100mm size riverstones ... they can pick them up but are too big to eat.

Fence it off so he cant get to it..

I would probably fence it off. As he gets older and the novelty wears off you may be able to remove the fence and he will leave them alone. Otherwise can you get bigger stones that cannot be swallowed?
