ShesaLikeableBiBear
We have been away since 27 Sep and arrived home today to this on my boy, Odin. His first symptoms were on 25 Sep and looked like conjunctivitis, (he had been at a show on 25 Sep). On 26 Sep his eye was red and on 27 Sep swollen. I dropped him into to the vet clinic on our way "out" and he was there again yesterday. My vet has had him on antibiotics and he has a topical eye ointment being applied twice daily. She has not seen anything like it before. We have him booked in again on Monday for a 2nd opinion and chances are we will have to see a specialist. Has anyone seen anything similar to this? lappiemum
I would be taking him to see an ACES vet specialist - that would probably be your best place to get a diagnosis.
ShesaLikeableBiBear
Thanks, lappiemum. Our vet and I have a feeling it may have been an ant bite from a show we were at on 24 Sep and it has become infected. Hopefully we can get to see a dermatologist/opthalmologist without too much of a wait.

karly101
I'd forget about second opinion and just ask for referral to specialist.. best not to mess around with eyes
ShesaLikeableBiBear
We have every intention of asking for a referral if the vet on Monday has not come across this before. The swelling should have gone down by now as odin has been on anti-biotics for a week tomorrow.
waffle
I would definitely see a specialist asap. i think i'm paranoid because my pup had his eye taken out. his eye started off red then went white-ish. in the end the eye had to be removed. the thing is that the specialist has more equipment and can test a lot more things than the vet can. hope everything turns out ok and it's just an infection! ShesaLikeableBiBear
Odin has a sebaceous cyst on his eyelid, he has had a slow releas cortisone injection which should bring the swelling down within 72 hours and a change of anti-biotics.
