Rascalmyshadow
We have a gorgeous blue brindle greyhound named Phoebe looking for her perfect home. She was born on the 19th May 2009, she is an ex show dog that didn't quite turn out how the breeder hoped. She is cat safe, child friendly and loves small dogs, she is fully housetrained is good in the car and a dream to walk. At the moment she is a bit skinny so we are trying to bulk her up, but she is very healthy with a nice shiny coat. She must go to a home where she will be inside and for a grey she is quite active so will need walking everyday. Her only vice is she likes to steal objects she thinks is worth collecting whether that be shoes, toilet rolls kids toys etc. She hasn't been put through GAP for her green collar because they won't allow us to do that if we are adopting her out, it is apparently the resposibilty of her new owner but I can guarantee she will pass and we would be willing to take her back if for any reason she didn't. Phoebe comes desexed, microchipped, vaccinated etc. and also comes with her nice warm jumper. Here are a couple of pics. Here she is with one of our previous rescues that was staying with us while his owner was on holidays.

tez
OMG...she's lovely and by the sounds of it she will soon have a forever home. Best of luck and congradulations in advance to the lucky new owners. If I had room for a third then she would be moving to Camperdown!!!
Dog_Horse_Girl
OMG she is gorgeous. If only I could have another dog...but I can't. I'm sure she'll find the perfect home in no time...how could she not? ;)
Rascalmyshadow
Thanks guys I hope she gets a great home. anniek I will give Julie a call. I was a little dissapointed with GAP because the only way they would help is if we paid $100 and then surrendered her which I didn't want to put her through. GAP has plenty of greyhounds waiting to get in, all of which pay the $100 surrender fee and are happy to do so. Being cat friendly she would have been snapped up in no time. Would love to know which breeder she came from, there were no Victorian show greyhounds born May 2009.
Swizzlestick
She's gorgeous. I have a full house though. Bit strange for me reading this. I had a grey from GAP, she was bred for showing, was brindle (although much darker), was cat friendly and her name was Phoebe!! She was a fantastic girl. Sure this lovely grey will find the perfect forever home.
Rascalmyshadow
Why should I pay $100 fee when I have done all her vet work and she can be rehomed straight from me? It's not like she is desperate to find a home. I thought since there waiting list for cat friendly greys was so long I could have tested her for her green collar and then been put on to someone that might have been interested in her. She wasn't born in Vic and I am not going to list her breeder on a public forum although they breed very nice dogs.

I've figured out her breeder, it's not hard, it's a small world. Once a grey has a green collar they are a GAP dog, fully backed by GAP, lifetime support etc. I can fully understand GAP's reluctance to grant a collar to a dog who will be passing through. GAP has their criteria to be followed, as do many other rescue/adoption organisations. GAP can't afford to have things go wrong.

I don't actually think that's how it works though. My understanding of their protocol is that dogs go into GAP foster care where they are assessed etc - the foster carers keep detailed records of each individual dog's traits so that it can then be matched to the most suitable home...they look at all aspects of the dog and of the potential adopter (not just if they are cat friendly and the adopter has a cat) in order to make the match as close a possible. Therefore the dog in question wouldn't be rehomed straight from you; it needs to go through the same process as any other GAP greyhound. At least that's how it works here in Qld...I am assuming it is a similar process in Vic. Edited October 3, 2010 by New Age Outlaw

If I want a green collar for any of my dogs, they still have to go to GAP to be assessed and I pay a fee for that. And I would have already paid for all their vet work as well. My word is not good enough, nor are my many photo's, nor should they be.
Rascalmyshadow
I think I may not have worded myself correctly I was happy to pay the fee and leave her with them to be assessed for her green collar, I even offered to pay the $100 and foster her until the right home was found, just so she didn't have to be passed through more places, obviously I would have had to fill in a foster carers form but we aren't guaranteed to be accepted. I am sure it was easy to figure out her breeder but unfortunately they aren't in a position to take her back, I wouldn't have given out her birth date if was worried about someone finding out where she came from, I just don't think it is my place to put their details on a public forum without their consent. I am trying to do what's in the best interest for Phoebe not what's going to make other people happy. Who knows she may end up staying with us and not going to a new home. Rebanne
Nicolel, I was only curious about the dogs breeder's cause the show bred grey world is so small and you are in Vic and I could account for all recently born Vic dogs. I also don't blame the breeder for not taking the dog back, sometimes it just can't be done, but I sincerely hope you didn't have to cover all her vet costs. I admit to taking offence at, what I saw, as a swipe at GAP. GAP does a fantastic job for thousands of greyhounds, but they do have their rules and regulations to follow. I hope Phoebe gets a forever home soon, just remember she will need to wear a muzzle while out and about ( I am not aware how much you know about the law and greyhounds ) and her new owners need to know that. ETA and they are not allowed off leash even in off leash parks and wearing a muzzle Edited October 3, 2010 by Rebanne
Rascalmyshadow
Rebanne no problem I wasn't actually having a shot at GAP I know they do a wonderful job and I admire them for doing so much for such a unique breed, I was just a little dissapointed when I spoke to them and was told if I didn't surrender her there was no help available especially when so many people want cat friendly greyhounds. I have paid for flights, desexing, vaccination, worming etc but she was already microchipped. I would love to keep her (she slept with me in bed all night last night and is such a cuddly girl) but I have some ongoing physical problems and until I see my specialist tomorrow I don't know long term if I will be capable of managing three large dogs. Edited to add: I know she must be muzzled and kept on leash (unfortunately), if we decide we can keep her she will be put through GAP asap to get her collar.
