I just had to tell everyone about my success.

I posted not long ago asking about e-collars and/or methods to stop my pooch barking at my mum trying to get her to play.

I WAS following advice a behaviourist/trainer had given me, but for reasons to long to mention the method was not working. I'm sure it would have if my mum had the energy to continue with it at a pace that would make a difference to the dog. But putting that aside, K9 mentioned something about squirting with water.

I had used this method earlier in his behaviour modification and it worked for me, but I shelved it afterward and forgot all about it.

Anyway, I gave the bottle of water to mum and told her to squirt him once as soon as he started to bark, not to make eye contact and not to make a game out of it (he loves water, from whatever source). She did this over a span of a week and for the last two days he has not barked once, not even gone to look to see if she was there to bark at!

Another bonus is his mouthing. He has not mouthed me or anybody else in the family for at least two weeks, but to put the icing on the cake, I took him to be groomed today (this being only the 5th time he's ever been clipped) and he was a perfect angel, it was like a different dog. His groomer is so impressed with me getting him to this stage. He's still got away to go, but I am now seeing the obedient dog that he CAN be at the end of the tunnel, it just makes all the hard work so worthwhile.:)
