Because I am crazy busy, I am putting in a time wasting poll. :(

Just to clarify, my kids are all Champions and we don't do Pointscore so this is not a personal question. Was just struck by someone saying after feeling let down by anther person in her breed "and I even kept mine out of the ring so she could title hers and she still etc etc"

but isnt showing dogs about winning the points.if someone did that for me it wouldnt feel right i would wont to gain my dogs title by beating other dogs because the judge thinks my dog is better and not because other exibitors pulled out.because whats the point in even showing.

I voted no....BUT....I have not shown a dog against a dog that I bred so that it could get points. Not because I didn't think it couldn't beat me, but just because I wanted to be sure.

And editing to add: And only on one occasion so that it could get the last couple of points it needed to qualify for its title for a particular deadline. Every other time before that and after that it was every dog for itself!!!

That's a thing I hate seeing people do! Over the years I have seen some breeds badly affected by this - people title one dog then take it out of the ring to then title their second best animal - down goes the quality of the breed. When I was showing my bitch I had a few exhibitors remark when she got her title "you will retire her now so we can win"? My answer - "No, get one to beat her", so most wouldn't enter if I was going. Pebs went on to her Grand title winning 28 BIGs and many other awards. I cringe now when I see the breed in the ring, what happened to the Standard?

Haven't been in the position to do it but I've seen plenty of situations where it has been done or people have expected it (sometimes with not very pleasant results).

If I had a dog that was good enough to win 28 BIGs I wouldn't stop showing it either unless the dog absolutely hated showing .

If I enter a show I do it because I want to show - doesn't matter who is there or isn't and if I win great, I've beaten all on offer. I don't expect people to withdraw to makes things easier on me and I wouldn't do it for someone else - it all comes down to whether I want to show and if my dogs enjoy it.

Showing is great fun but I think a lot of people take the points thing way too seriously and equate obtaining points to virtue in the breed which isn't always necessarily the case - I think breeding to the standard and showing are quite separate and not always good indicators of the other aspects.

conztruct - this girl loved the ring, a real show-off. I was only there to hold the lead, she did the rest herself.

When I retired her I still had to take her to shows, put her show lead on and give her a walk around the ring during the lunch break or she would be most upset.

I said no to both however if someone came along with a Chessie I would let them know which shows I will be going to so they can make thier own conclusions about the other shows. I would hope they would still come to the other shows though because I would love to be able to have another dog in the ring with me.

I've had people complain and tell me that I should leave a couple of mine home, as they were titled and taking the points off other people's dogs and bitches.

They can go to hell as far as I'm concerned, no one has ever given my dogs an easy ride to their titles. I like the competition and love the challenges that come with big points attached.

I've got a younger bitch here, who really can't beat one of my older girls and bugger it, she can earn her title too. I worked out if I'd pulled my older girl she would be just about there but to me, that's hollow and no better than the petrol champions and I will have neither.

Wouldn't do it either way. A dog should earn its title and I still believe that all dogs should earn at least one 25 pt BOB or a 25 pt BIG to get their Champion Title.

That has got to be one of the most crazy things I have ever heard! If you got togther all the Chessies in Aus currently showing it still wouldn't be a 25point BOB and when you have a breed some judges don't even recognise getting a BIG seems like a far fetched fantasy. If they brought in this rule I would stop showing. We have Grand Ch to award high achieveing dogs.

I'm of the opinion that they come cheaply as well. I like the changes to the Grand

Me too. The idea of that a dog could become a GR CH without beating others really cheapened the title IMO. If it means that not all of us can achieve it with our dogs so be it.

I know of someone from another breed who had it done for her and did it for someone else - but its not something that I would do. I show to have fun, have not yet titled a dog (would love to and am halfway there).

I absolutely cheered for a friend, while standing next to her, while her bitch beat my dog for BOB to gain her last point - never been so happy to be beaten in all my life and I'm sure she would not have loved her last points and win as much if I had pulled my dog out!

I voted no to both.

To be honest, I'd be a bit offended if someone did that to 'help' my dog get it's title. My dog got his title recently, there is a close-to unbeatable dog in my breed at the moment and we had to beat him to get it but it makes it all the more special!

However, when friends and I go away to shows - interstate or country shows, when we suspect we may be the only Samoyeds there or only a few, we will make sure that our dogs are in different classes so that we don't knock each other out of the challenge/group. I don't think that is uncommon though?

No and No.

A champion from weak competition is just as bad as no competition and petrol champions. I like a large entry of good quality dogs. At least the CC will have some meaning.

If others want to win CC's then they can breed a dog that's competitive.

As a side note: I have known people to withdraw their dogs so others don't get the points needed to make a champion on the day. A stupid and petty thing to do.

How can you say that - your dogs sire is an Int CH & a multi BIG winner & RUBIS winner ?

Regardless - this is my opinion and it won't change. Also to date all the dogs I have titled have achieved this - and in Victoria where we don't get light competition.

If a dog deserves a title then it must earn it. No dog is undefeatable.

You are 100% right.

My boy had been on a bit of a winning streak with 5 BOB's 3 RUBIG's and 2 BIG's in a row. The best he could do last weekend was win his class, so it just goes to prove the point.

My boy was Intermediate in Show at our Vic Champion Show, a BIG winner two weeks ago and at the Royal last week, 5 out of 6 :D :o:o His worse result since both of us stared showing, we have never been shock, horror unplaced, even in classes with 10+ dogs

Thankfully it was just his behaivour that had him dropped :mad
