So much for 'love thy neighbour' and talking problems through.

A barking dog sparked a fight between two neighbours in Sydney's northwest, leaving a 23-year-old man in hospital with serious head injuries.

The row erupted between the two men about 2.15am (AEST) yesterday in Carson Street, Dundas Valley.

During the fight the pair allegedly used objects to hit each other, police said.

But when one tried to move away he was allegedly chased down and bashed by his neighbour.

The 23-year-old victim was taken to Royal North Shore Hospital, where he remains in a stable condition.

A 41-year-old man was charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

He was given bail and is due at Parramatta Local Court on November 3.

I know barking dogs can drive neighbours completely demented but jaysus, the poor guy has head injuries. Not on. I'm with you Sam - why couldnt they just talk it through...unless he was just a really irresponsible dog owner. Makes you scratch your head wondering why the damn RSPCA jumped all over voice lowering.

At least they took it out on each other, not the dog.

Do you think they will let the owner debark now?

Of course not Steve. Its croool - having your owner assaulted or being baited is better than having a quieter bark. :(

Yes much more humane to take up a much needed bed in the brain trauma ward of RNSH.

Unbelievable, isnt it.

Our neighbours dog barks from 5.30 in the morning on when his owners leave for work, the another across the road barks when his owners are at work as well, it wouldnt be so bad except I work shift work so I understand how upsetting it can be. Rather than cause a war as neither have any intention of doing anything about it (like committing to excersising working breeds) I wear earplugs when I sleep. It isnt the dogs fault, after all they are just bored. While legal debarking wouldnt fix the reason why these dogs bark, it sure would stop the horrible consequences of having a barking dog in the suburbs.

One of the my new friends in my little country town was woken at 7.30am 2 weeks ago by her neighbour weilding a hammer screaming that she was going to "brain your f*&^ing dog if you don't keep it in".

Fair enough the dog was getting out and that is not good BUT in my presence only the week before she had said to my friend that her little dog was a sweetheart who got out occasionally but was no trouble at all and so very friendly.

I think some people are just nuts!! This lady's son told my friend yesterday that his mother was on an assault charge last year for hitting someone with a tyre lever - the lady is about 65!!!

Just a sign of our society.

We are growing a selfish, me me me, zero tolerance society.

I absolutely fear having neighbours who target my dogs - they're not badly behaved or noisy or anything like that, but some people think that one bark is excessive (though never mind their brats of kids screaming constantly all hours of the day and night).

So far I've been very lucky and had great neighbours but I'm sure the day will come (hopefully not) when I'll have to put up with idiots.

I think I need to buy a nice big property far away - it's little wonder people live in fear in suberbia and virtually imprison themselves in their homes.
