pip1981
Hey Guys, With all the talk of Secret Santa in the threads, a couple of us were chatting yesterday about Secret Santa for the doggies who come to Kepala. We did it last year, and we were wondering if people would be keen again this year? Basically, you purchase 1 gift for every dog you have, and you will receive 1 gift each for your dog/s. We didn't draw names last year, it works like a lucky dip. We kept it to toys last year as there are some dogs with special dietary requirements, and we kept the spend limit to $10 per dog. We brought the wrapped presents to the December meet at Kepala and someone had the job (I believe it was LM's skin-kid, Maddie) of handing the pressies around to all the dogs. If people are keen, I'll bring it up again in the thread for December to remind us all!

caninefriend
Hi Spitzbaby I would be the same if I had to leave Dexter, which is why his third trip to Tassie is coming up - he has to come with me. I did shop around once for kennels though before deciding he would come with me. I liked Kepala the best and for an extra $3 a day they get your dog out for a human interaction play which I liked the sounds of too and I thought was well worth the money. Hope this helps a little in your decision making. CF. Hi all,Has anyone ever left their bubs at Kepala for the boarding kennel thing? Any feedback? kirst_goldens
Spitz baby, not sure how far u would travel for the right place but i work in a kennels out in Lyndhurst which is SE melbourne... We run the dogs in social packs- we select dogs by size and temperament and let them play they get run 4 times a day for over 30mins each time www.allbreeds.com.au Have a look it is a long way away from Kepala though :S

SmoothieGirl
Hi all,Has anyone ever left their bubs at Kepala for the boarding kennel thing? Any feedback? I have to leave Kairu for my brother's wedding in January.. and I'm freaking out already... Instead of a kennel, have you thought about having her live in with a dog trainer. Underdog Training (Cosmolo on DOL) do it, just Google them. The dog lives in the home of one of the staff, who are all accredited dog trainers and get treated like their own dogs. Yes is its a bit more expensive, but well worth it. If its just for a short time then you hardly notice the cost difference at all. Bronte stayed with them for just over three weeks in June and had a great time. I don't mind reputable kennels as such, but unless I can help it, Bronte and 'dog yet to be concieved' will always stay in home stays, its just a more relaxing atmosphere for them and so I worry less too. Sankari
I think I am way too embarassed to admit how many toys Charlotte gets, but in saying that she'll happily take more toys! ETA: I have done pet minding for a few years in my own home. Mostly just do bunny boarding now, but before I got Charlotte I had dogs coming to stay for up to a month or so at a time. We had 2 Brittanys stay for 3 months at one point. I gave up looking after other people's dogs mostly as my dog at the time was quite ill so it was better to give it up for a while. I havent taken it up again, but I have taken up House sitting which I feel is also a good way to know your dogs have company possibly even longer than they usually do! Just something to consider. I also think Kepala kennels would be reputal or the one Kirst mentioned since she would be the one socialising your dog Edited October 12, 2010 by LucyCharzie
spitzbaby
Thanks for all the advice I'll take a look at those mentioned. Wouldn't mind leaving him at a trainers house at all.. will definitely look at that option too I want to take him with me!! if only it's not so far away..
