OSoSwift
They always get something with their dry, so it would be say 3/4 of a cup of dry then a tin of sardines, or half a cup of mince etc. There food changes almost daily depending on what they have done exercise wise and if it is winter/summer. Lab_Rat
I feed dry & raw too.....Bones in the morning then dry and mince/sardines/other stuff at night!! They both do really well on it and the only thing I would change if I could, would be to be able to give the ridgeback more bones. But as she has allergies and getting suitable bones is difficult she gets by on what she gets!
Niques
Sounds like my boy's diet. He gets 3/4 cup of Nutro in the morning with cottage cheese or yoghurt. And mince if I've bought any. Plus sardines and egg about twice a week. Then he gets some form of bone for dinner, whether lamb off-cuts, soup bones, a lamb shank or chicken frame. How much dry do you currently feed him? I think (I'd have to check the packet) that James gets about half, maybe a bit less, of the recommended amount.
aussielover
How much dry do you actually need to feed them as puppies to ensure they are getting all the micronutrients especially calcium and phosphate? Currently my puppy is on 2 cups of dry a day, plus extra bones and sardines or eggs .
Stitch
I follow the directions on the pack and then reduce it from there. If the dog doesn't appear hungry or finish what you have given them, then feed less next time. If the dog is a gutz then do the pinch test over the ribs area to make sure it is not getting too fat. Every dog is different and has different levels of activity. If you are feeding this way and you notice itchy skin, sloppy or large poos, lack of condition, etc. then it is time to try a new dogfood. I feed dry in the mornings and raw etc. of an evening as most dogs get thirsty after eating dry - it gives them a chance to drink as much as they want after eating the dry without being full of water overnight and needing to go to the toilet when you don't want them to. KitKat
I use a double rowed rake for my GSD's - unfortunately the good brushes like the furminator and coat king just cuts my boys coats (luckily those brushes are great for the cats!) Thanks, I bought a slicker today & was very happy with the job Any of you feed your pup at least twice a day?? I do, like half in morning & half at night, I think that way he won't gulp it all down.. What is the trend for puppies? Thanks again!
Guest belgian.blue
My two are fed raw bony chunky meat in the AM and dry with random stuff added in the PM. Normally bones in the early afternoon or lunch on the weekends but bones only once a fortnight .. give or take. Not sure why I fed raw in the AM and dry in the PM though? Maybe because the meat is easier to defrost over night in summer? With the Nutro dry food I pretty much half what the bag suggests I should be feeding.
