One Of Those Days

I have had 3 near misses today ... all thankfully have turned out ok.

This morning I went over to a friends place to take their dog for a walk. I decided to take him the couple of blocks to the off-leash area. Every thing was find until we had just crossed the busy main road to get over to the off-leash park ... when the clip came undo on the leash. Not sure exactly what happened but one minute he was on the lead and then next he was running off down the side of the main road (opposite direction to the off-leash park). This dog doesn't have very good recall so I knew calling him wasn't going to really help ... for some crazy reason I yelled his name and then run off through the park to the off-leash area ... and thankfully he followed me into the park. Disaster 1 avoided ...

After that morning I come home to my 2 ...I left the front door open as I was carrying stuff inside from the car. I quickly put the stuff away and was about to head out again when I was about to close up the back sliding door (have to open the screen door to close the glass door) ... when the phone rang. I closed the screen door again and picked up the phone. Next minute the screen door is knocked off the runners and the youngest charged through the house and out the front door. I yelled his name, dropped the phone and charged out the front door after him ... only to find him sitting in the back of the still open car waiting for a ride!!!! Thankfully I have an array of leads in the back of the car so he is quickly secured and walked back inside. Disaster 2 avoided ....

Just a little while ago ... I was doing some work on the "lawn" side of the yard so the dogs were on the other side of the yard with the side gate closed. I had given my lemon tree a serious pruning earlier so I was dragging branches out to the front yard and bringing bags of top soil back with me to the back yard. I had about 3 branches left so I grabbed all three and were juggling them a bit as I was trying to get them up the side of the house through the side gate ... just as I got to the front yard ... the youngest came charging past me and started doing zooming around the front yard (unfenced front yard!!!!). I dropped the branches and called his name .... actually I called him the wrong name (instead I yelled out our older dogs name) and then turned back towards the side gate (to see the older dog coming running towards me also) ... So I whistled and called "lets go" ... thankfully both come zooming back into the yard after me and then quickly disappeared back into the yard allowing me to quickly close the side gate. They must have jumped up against gate locking them on their side of the yard and it has come undone ... normally I put a clip on the gate to make sure it doesn't come open but I didn't this time. Disaster 3 avoided ... time for a stiff drink now !!!!

I am thinking it must be the weather or something ... normally I can leave the back door open (not something I try with the front door open though) and neither of my dogs will put one foot inside without being invited ...

My boys have been taught not to go through a gate without being invited ... in order to avoid these types of disasters ... but the youngest seems to have completely forgotten the rules today.

whoa lucky but what good dogs!

my lawnmower man had left the side gate open one day and I didn't notice. The two younger ones were inside with me, but Onslow was outside. I was just sitting down having a chat to a friend when there was a bang on the front door. so I went to open it and lo and behold who was sitting there waiting to be let in :):laugh:
