"A DANGEROUS dog on a death notice remains at large after being stolen from the City of Stirling Animal Care Facility.

The Akita was taken from the Balcatta facility on Thursday, August 5 – the night before it was due to be euthanased.

City of Stirling community safety manager Laurie Crouch said the City was concerned the tan and white male dog could injure again.

“This time it may be a young child and the consequences could be fatal,” he said.

On Tuesday, April 13, the Stirling Times reported that the animal was believed to have been involved in three separate attacks within a one-kilometre radius in Karrinyup.

One of these incidents resulted in a man losing a finger and requiring ongoing medical treatment after he tried to help his father, who was also bitten.

A City of Stirling spokeswoman said the dog’s owner appeared in Perth Magistrates Court on Friday, June 18 and was fined $7064. An order was also made for the dog to be put down, with a 28-day window for the owner to appeal against the conviction.

Mr Crouch said security procedures at the Balcatta pound, which has alarms, a CCTV camera and a reinforced door, had been revised after the incident.

“The offenders forced a secured door to gain access,” he said. “They also used a bolt cutter to remove the dog from the padlocked cage. No other dogs or property were taken.”

He said there had been one other similar incident, many years ago, when a dog due to be euthanased was stolen after offenders got into the roof space above the dog’s cage and lifted the animal out through the ceiling.

The three male offenders involved in last month’s breakout are described as Caucasian, two of who were wearing black hooded jumpers.

“The other male had a short pony-tail, dark brown hair and a short dark-brown to black beard. He was dressed in a dark shirt, gloves and light-coloured pants,” Mr Crouch said.

He said if they were found, the City would pursue further legal action because a break and enter had occurred.

Mirrabooka police are investigating the incident.

Anyone who thinks they may have seen the dog is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or the City of Stirling rangers on 9345 8555."
