yellowgirl
Banshee (female Chinese Crested) has been getting the hiccups a lot more frequently in the past few weeks. She was diagnosed with pancreatitis in June and has been doing really well since her diet change. Does anyone know if the hiccups would be related to the pancreatitis in any way? Anyone else have a pancreatic dog who gets the hiccups?
Everythings Shiny
What meds is Banshee on? It could be the meds causing it, may not be but if in doubt - might be worth a follow up call with the vet.
yellowgirl
Hi ES, Banshee's not on any meds for the pancreatitis. She's just finished a second course of antibiotics for stump pyometra. I spoke to the vet a little while ago and she says the hiccups may, or may not be, related to the pancreatitis. She's recommended adding some electrolytes to Banshee's diet and see if that makes a difference.

Rottigirl
Interesting, my pup had parvo and used to hiccup alot and now is hiccuping less as digestive system repaired itself (for ages he had symptoms of pancreatitis while recovering from parvo). I used to give him a piece of ice to lick to stop the hiccups. Would be interested to find out if they do relate to pancreatitis. Skruffy n Flea
good luck with your crestie yellowgirl! i hope hiccups aren't a symptom of any disease frankly cuz my two swfs get hiccups occasionally [for no apparent reason] and it makes me wonder why, all of a sudden, one will just start to hiccup! now, reading your post, i'll be speaking with my vet to see whether there is an underlying concern that is manifesting and the resulting hiccupping is a warning!!! Adza
I think I read somewhere if they hiccup and regurgitate then should check it out. My last dog Tess had pancreatitis but never had hiccups, vets never mentioned it being a sign or symptom of it?
yellowgirl
Well, of course as soon as I posted about the issue, she hasn't hiccuped in the last two days! ;) Maybe she's just been pigging out too quickly recently :D ..... ooooohhhhh, hang on! I made her a treat bottle (fizzy bottle with a hole cut in the middle) a little while ago, and she just loves rolling it around and wolfing down the dry food when it comes out (it's her usual low fat dry food). I wonder if the excitement of it all causes her to swallow more air or not chew the food as usual, and contributes to the hiccups. I haven't given her the treat bottle the last two days. Hmmmmm, I wonder...?
