oakway Posted September 14, 2010 Share Posted September 14, 2010 The Nobivac vaccine will over ride the mother immunity in the pup, so will last for life. However, there is the occasional dog where a vaccine doesn't 'take' and it is thought these are the vaccinated dogs who later contract the vaccinated disease. Don't forget the dog you are going to use may also be flea treated. My males and bitches are flea treated and and produce nice healthy pups. And very interesting discussions about what people tell their new owners of their puppies about vaccinating - I have only had 2 litters and it was very hard to know how to advise these people especially as the vets would always put a spanner in the works and make me out to be an unethical idiot?!?!? Anyway I am so stupid - I can not believe I forgot all about titre testing - dehhhh :D - that was an easy answer??? here is me worrying about when she had her last vaccination - And sorry I forgot to mention the rest of the story - I bought this girl from another breeder and all I have on record is her puppy vaccinations and I am very silly for leaving it last minute to worry about it - but as some may know I have had some very sad things happen recently - loosing my first bred baby and also busy with a litter - so all this has crept up on me so quickly. I have tried contacting the breeder about what has been done - but can't get through so have her booked in for a titre test to see if she has sufficient enough levels to go through pregnancy and give enough to her pups once born. Anyway for everyones interest I spoke to my vet and he said that out of the 50 odd years he has been practicing he would never vaccinate a girl that is half way through her pregnancy - he has never seen any problems with vaccinating during a season, even upon mating and during the first stages of pregnancy - in fact he mentioned he has a few breeders who actually prefer to have the bitches done while pregnant because they believe it gives a good start to the pups!!! I am just relating what my vet said for your interest - I am not saying that I agree with it as I would still avoid vaccinating during pregnancy as I am so finicky about all those chemicals introduced during such time - I am also very cautious with flea treatment and worming as well and try to avoid those during such time unless we are struggling with the fleas but so far we have had no more flea problems since moving to this new property - I do the 3 month intestinal wormer right before mating which sees my girls through the pregnancy and up until the pups get their first worming - I have had no troubles or worms so far ;) Anyway thank you all so much again Jess Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
