claireybell
Hi Guys, We are about to put an offer in on a property in Cockatoo (fingers crossed they accept it!!!). For thoses that live in the area are ticks a problem?
oakway
I would ring a local vet and see what they have to say.
dancinbcs
I doubt it. I asked last year when travelling through Vic and SA and was told that Vic only has ticks on the east coast, not the southern coast. Cockatoo is a long way from the east coast being not far from Melbourne.
Bundyburger
I've never had tick problems anywhere from Melbourne to the peninsula so i think you'll be fine.
Echo
I have lived in Cockatoo for 11 years. Rural type property. We run our dogs in the bush around here on a regular basis and have never had a problem with ticks. Just watch out for the Echidnas. Kirislin
I dont think Cockatoo would have the deadly paralysis ticks but it might have little bush ticks. I am not even certain about that, but I used to work at a groomers in the Yarra Valley and very occasionally we would pull a tick of a dog. It didn't happen much and I dont think they were considered dangerous. In all the time I helped out there I think I only found maybe 3 or 4 ticks so it's not common. JulesP
I've had 1 tick on a dog in 10+ years and it was a harmless type tick. That is just down the road in Wandin.
Kirty
I've had the odd bush tick on my dog after walking through the hills, but there are no paralysis ticks. And you shouldn't get the numbers of of bush ticks needed to cause a problem.
