A man accused of breaking his dog's leg and drowning it in an esky of water will face Esperance Magistrate's Court today.

Michael David Hastie, 26, of Castletown, faces one charge of animal cruelty after he allegedly kicked his dog, known as Imi, and submerged it in the esky, securing the lid, before going for a walk for a couple of hours.

An RSPCA prosecutor will today allege that Mr Hastie was heard bragging about killing his dog and after speaking to a local ranger he admitted hurting Imi after the dog dug up the reticulation in the back garden.
