Rottigirl
Can anyone recommend a good probiotic for dogs? we don't sell it where i work. Protexin - great stuff and it's powder. Check it is suitable with your vet and don't forget to store it in the fridge. I also had another thought. Some plants can cause itching diarrhea and vomiting in dogs??? Everythings Shiny
Some plants can cause itching diarrhea and vomiting in dogs??? Yep, many plants can (some more so then others) Here's a list I could find - some are completely toxic to pets, others are bad enough to make them sick. If you've got any of these - they COULD be causing the problem: Aloe Vera Apple (seeds) Apricot (pit) Autumn Crocus Baby's Breath Branching Ivy Buddhist Pine Calla Lily Ceriman Cherry (seeds and wilting leaves) Cineraria Cordatum Cornstalk Plant Cuban Laurel Cycads Daffodil Dieffenbachia Dragon Tree Easter Lily (especially cats!) Elephant Ears English Ivy Fiddle-leaf Fig Foxglove Geranium Giant Dumb Cane Gold Dust Dracaena Hahn's Self-Branching Ivy Hurricane Plant Janet Craig Dracaena Jerusalem Cherry Lacy Tree Philodendron Madagascar Dragon Tree Marijuana Miniature Croton Morning Glory Narcissus Nephytis Oleander Oriental Lily (especially cats!) Peach (wilting leaves and pits) Plumosa Fern Poison Ivy Pothos Primrose Red Princess Rhododendron Saddle Leaf Philodendron Satin Pothos Silver Pothos String of Pearls Sweetheart Ivy Taro Vine Tomato Plant (green fruit, stem and leaves) Tropic Snow Dieffenbachia Yew Amaryllis Apple Leaf Croton Asparagus Fern Azalea Bird of Paradise Buckeye Caladium Castor Bean Charming Dieffenbachia Chinese Evergreen Clematis Corn Plant Croton Cutleaf Philodendron Cyclamen Devil's Ivy Dracaena Palm Dumb Cane Elaine Emerald Feather Eucalyptus Florida Beauty Fruit Salad Plant German Ivy Glacier Ivy Golden Pothos Heartland Philodendron Indian Rubber Plant Japanese Show Lily (especially cats!) Kalanchoe Lily of the Valley Marble Queen Mexican Breadfruit Mistletoe Mother-in-Law's Tongue Needlepoint Ivy Nightshade Onion Peace Lily Pencil Cactus Poinsettia (low toxicity) Poison Oak Precatory Bean Red Emerald Red-Margined Dracaena Ribbon Plant Sago Palm Schefflera Spotted Dumb Cane Striped Dracaena Swiss Cheese Plant Tiger Lily (especially cats!) Tree Philodendron Weeping Fig Also some of these are hard to get over here and are mainly from USA but I couldn't find my Aussie stuff
aussielover
Thanks for that list, she doesn't actually spend much time unsupervised in the yard and we don't let her eat plants or go into the bushes. She could have contact with them at the park though.
Everythings Shiny
Your welcome - Its a list I like to keep handy - the copy I have has illustrations of them but it'd take too long to get them on here lol I used to worry a lot as our older neighbour (who was a real nasty peice) had oleander hanging over our fence. When i was little we suspect my horse ate a little of it and he died hours later from colic - which then turned into a twisted bowel - ever since then i have become more aware of plants that can cause harm Hopefully it's something simple and it gets solved quickly
Rottigirl
ES I just had to interrupt to say that picture of Abby is just adorable...pony foals are just the cutest! Aussielover I forgot to say that I pick up my Protexin sachels from the vet (if you order online you can't be sure they have been stored correctly and probiotics are still live). I hope Mindy is doing better this week. Edited September 14, 2010 by Rottigirl
aussielover
Mindy is now on puppy pal as instructed by guide dogs. yes I know its very bad, but she seems to be doing much better on it??? I honestly can't work out why. I am giving her more bones now and adding in sardines and egg, and she seems to be doing a lot better.
persephone
I am giving her more bones now and adding in sardines and egg, and she seems to be doing a lot better. perhaps it's the extra bones and other good things! Good news anyway
JulesP
I have IBS and have no troubles eating Maccas It is the good foods - grains, veggies etc that cause strife. The Pal might be easier for Mindy to digest.
Rottigirl
I know how awful it is to see pups with constant diarrhea. So glad you found something she does well on. Yay puppy pal
Genabee
Aussie Lover - I hope Mindy is feeling better soon! Genevieve has been on Advance since day one and I have just changed her over to armetis for similar reasons you are describing. While she hasn't had dodgy stools, she has dandruff, scratches constantly and scoots on her bum all the time. I have noticed in the last couple of days, much less itching and I haven't seen her scoot yet. I just hope she doesn't lose her smooth glossy coat. It seems a few people have had similar experiences on Advance... There is clearly truth to the notion that the best food is the one that is best for your dog! I also have IBS but now its junk food that sets me off, some of the worst offenders are fizzy coldrinks and burgers, onions and nuts also cause me a lot of pain. koalathebear
Pal! As a little kid I remember that dog food ads were always very entertaining. Pal and also Chum, I think - "Chum's so chumpy - you could carve it!" ;) I'm so glad that Mindy's doing better!!!

I'd say it is the bones etc because puppy pal is essentially flavoured water with thickeners.
