was'nt sure where to put this , i have a male bunny and we have just bought another baby bunny male too but jsut wondering if anyone know of somewhere cheap to get them desexed there house bunnies so hoping i can get them both desexed so we dont get urine everywhere lol

Not sure where you are in NSW, but, my Vet in Nth Richmond does rabbits all the time. Nth Richmond Veterinary Hospital, Bells line of Road, Nth Richmond. :(

hi yeah that would help c/coast nsw ,

i will try animal welfare league nsw and hopefuly they will do my boy that i have know he is 5 mths old and when my baby one gets older

It doesn't stop unination so to speak, but, as Rabbits are extremely territorial, they tend to scent mark everywhere not only with their chin glands but with urine also. much like a Tom Cat, they will spray...I have found that desexing tends to reduce the territorial behaviour albeit not completely. My boy will use his litter tray now instead of weeing on anything that I own...YUK!!

if you desex them before , they reach maturity it stops them from spraying , mum use to breed and show rabbits for 20 years , we had entire ones that were fine but we had ones that were horrors i dont plan to breed and also would like to reduce the risk of this spraying to happening lol . i might ring around vets and see what there prices are .

:( ...Or, backing up to you when you are standing near his inside hutch and spraying you through the cage....apparantly he loves me!!!!

You will just have to ring around vets.

You couldn't go outside without getting sprayed by my desexed bunny, nearly had to invest in some waders to protect my clothes! But he was always a bit evil so maybe it was that? :(

Last time I got a male rabbit desexed it was at Sydney Uni, they had a vet visiting from England and he offered to desex my boy as a lecture.

Last year my friend had her rabbit desexed this time an American visiting vet. Apparently rabbit desexation is not actually in the curriculum and Australian vets are not routinely taught to desex rabbits due to rabbits still considered a pest. So as a previous member has said you do need to ring around or find out if Sydney Uni will desex your rabbit for you.

DO not go to Sydney Uni... Most Expensive Vets for rabbit desexing. in my ring around vets they were $280 plus for a female spay, and not much cheaper for a buck.

North Richmond is the cheapest I found with a rabbit specialist.

Vet Friends are pretty good $222 for with overnight stay and good knowledge

RSPCA ridiculously expensive.

I didn't get through to the Animal Welfare League.

I cant quite work out what your saying, you dont have 2 male rabbits together do you? :laugh: Male rabbits VERY rarely get along together when they hit 12 weeks plus and will fight to death desexed or not, did your breeder not inform you of that?

Hopefully you find somewhere cheaper to get it done. Sounds like NSW costs more than down here.

I know heaps of male rabbits who get on together, they just need to be bonded carefully and slowly. Plenty of the House Rabbit people have two males.

Re vet, just make sure you don't fast the rabbits before the op. They just assume they are like dogs/cats, but fasting rabbits can bring on GI stasis.

Tess32: I know there are some who do get along but I honestly have heard of very few cases, and heard of plenty of cases where littermates even have attacked and killed or badly injured each other. I just wouldn't risk 2 males after the incidence that happened here. 2 boys awaiting owners to pick up their bunnies (same litter) 12 weeks old, both very friendly loving rabbits I went out to do my usual water check before heading out, to find one had bitten the other's ear off! Of course a vet trip immediately and had it cleaned up and stitched up and informed the owner what had happened. The owner was very understanding and I explained it doesn't affect a normal life to this bunny at all.

Yes definately do not stop any food for rabbits. They are completely different to dogs and cats.

im quite aware on what males rabbits can do although my mum who bred them for 20 years did have some males thatw ere housed togetaher until maturity . these guys arent house togetaher although run around the house togetaher with no issues , 1 is a dutch the other is a lop .

LucyCharzie if u bred and show rabbits and have dutch i reckon u probley know my mums stud name depending onw here u got ur dutch from . ziyadah rabbit stud

she use to bred , dutch , minirex , swissfox , standard red , netherland dwarfs .
