Dog-friendly Beaches?

It's been years since I've been to the coast and Elbie's never been! I've been looking at people's photos with their doggies at the beach with a great deal of envy so was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for any dog-friendly beaches that are reachable from Canberra? He's still quite vocal in the car so we wouldn't want to drive for toooooooooooo long We would be keeping him on-lead - a longish leash but still on-lead Thanks heaps in advance!

:D I suppose we could try! He settles when we're driving on a straight stretch of road - he gets very barky when he hears the indicators though. My husband and I are going to be deaf soon. Thanks for the info - I will check Google maps!

Straight down the Kings Highway to Batemans Bay, 2 hours traveling at most. Corrigans Beach just south of BB is a smallish dog beach. The best off leash dog beach is the big beach at Broulee. Entrance at McNee Street right around to the airport wind sock at Moruya.

One thing to consider is, does your dog get car sick??? the bends on the Clyde Mountain are very twisty. I found out on a recent trip with my dog, she was fine coming down but going up she vomited everywhere.

dianed: elbie doesn't get carsick, he just barks a lot in the car, only turning quiet if bribed with food We will work on longer distances with him before attempting the beach journey.
