Kimba
Hi Everyone I am a new member and a new puppy to be owner in a few months. So I have been doing lots of research and I am just not sure about something. So if you could give me some advice that would be much appreciated. So my question is to do with toileting. I understand that everytime your puppy toilets in the correct spot you should make a huge fuss and treat puppy as much as you can. But I have seen some people say when taking your puppy out to toilet in the middle of the night that you shouldn't talk to the puppy and they should go straight back to bed. So with your own experiences is this the best thing to do? Thanks in advance Kim
Guest Ams
You can just give a quiet "good puppy" and take it back to bed. Praise is okay but not the fully excitable type you would give during the day. eta: At night my command is "empty the puppy and come back inside". This means straight out, do what you gotta do and come back in. Anyone who decides to chase possums gets left outside for the night. W Sibs
My experience is.. take them outside. give them the command to go to the toilet. give them a praise and cuddle when they do so. take them inside.. no talking to them or anything. put them back where they sleep (Emmy sleeps on the bed with me). go back in bed. ignore them. this doesn't take more than 2 minutes. Emmy is good.. she goes straight to sleep. she knows that if I turn the light off, it's sleep time.
