Joint Teeth?

I'm a bit concerned about Mars's teeth. He is now 8 months old and all his adult teeth have come through and there seems to be a joint tooth?

I check and clean out any gunk that tends to get caught on and inbetween the two teeth. This is a pre-clean pic and actually one of his cleaner days!

It almosts looks like his baby tooth didn't want to come out and his adult tooth just started growing out.

He doesn't seem bothered by it at all when I touch it, it isn't wobbly and he happily hoovers up his food and eats chicken wings with ease.

I'll be getting the vet to check it out, but was wondering if anyone has seen this before? Is it something that needs to be pulled out?

It does look like a baby tooth that hasn't come out.

Happens lots of times.

Most people that I know show their dogs, so when this happens they have them removed.

If it is causing problems I would have the vet remove it.

The other thing you could try would be more bones and hope the dog will remove naturally.

Its a retained baby tooth. If he's getting desexed the vet should be able to remove it easily enough for you.

IMO it should be taken out, as it's still solid I doubt bones etc would help now.

x3 It also affects the dentition as the adult canine can't move into it's correct place and that can affect the canine on the lower jaw in the long term.

It needs to be removed now. We usually wait until 6 months, then any retained baby teeth we haven't been able to pull out ourselves, are removed by the vet. If you leave it there it will affect his bite and cause the adult tooth to decay because it traps plaque between them.

Very true. I'd be talking to the vets sooner rather than later.

I'll try and find the photo's at work of a 2 year old dog who ended up with really bad jaw problems cuz of his retained baby teeth.

Well, I wanted to leave him getting desexed until a bit later.. but since this has come up I'll be letting Mars know that he'll be getting the snip sooner than expected. I've booked him in to be desexed and while he's there they're going to get that tooth out aswell.
